As is the judge?

I know some of you want to spin everything in a partisan fashion but in reality it has nothing to do with R vs D. The media in Texas, who is far more familiar with the dynamics of this situation than national people are, have all treated this as a legitimate inquiry.

Did you know that one of the grand jurors that helped indict him, was an active delegate to the Texas State Democratic Party?

quote:

Rho Chalmers, who disclosed to the Houston Chronicle yesterday that she was a member of the grand jury that indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry, was an active delegate to the Texas Democratic Party convention during grand jury proceedings

quote:

More troubling, however, is the fact that Chalmers attended, photographed, and commented on an event with Democratic state Sen. Kirk Watson while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.

Watson was a witness in front of the grand jury. On June 27, 2014, Chalmers shared a photo of the Watson event on a community Facebook page she started called Developer’s Dungeon. “Senator Kirk Watson telling the story of the Wendy Davis fillibuster (sic),” she wrote in a comment accompanying the picture.

Isn't the prosecutor appointed by the DA and isn't the case appointed to the judge?

This is a rhetorical question, right?

You're supposed to be an attorney, right?

How does a judge (who is supposed to be impartial arbiter) have anything to do with an indictment?

frick, either you're a liar, or a moron.

choose.

The criminal complaint against Perry was filed in June 2013 by the liberal Texans for Public Justice but it was assigned to a Republican judge in Bexar County who appointed Michael McCrum—a former police officer and prosecutor in the George H.W. Bush administration—as special prosecutor. McCrum was previously tapped by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (both conservative Republicans) to be the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas. There is no evidence that McCrum has a partisan axe to grind—quite the contrary.

The Travis County DA’s office, including Rosemary Lehmberg, had nothing to do with the indictment.

That McCrum was a Republican appointee in the 1980s doesn't necessarily make him a Republican today, seeing as he's spent the last 15 years as a part of the criminal defense bar.

Factually speaking, the indictment is weak. The coercion statute contains a plainly worded exception that applies to the facts here. The abuse of power count falls without the coercion.

I don't think it's a Democratic scheme. You'll find me arguing against this in previous Perry threads. But from a legal standpoint, 100% chance he walks.
