Why not Megatron before top RBs?

I've got first pick in a 10 team keeper league. I'm keeping Antonio Brown (5th round pick) and Harvin (stashed him last year so just a 13th rounder).

The last few years in fantasy (for my leagues anyway) seem skewed more toward neding better receivers, because the top RBs are usually more unpredictable than their preseason ranks.

So, would anyone talk me out of drafting megatron first overall and taking someone like ellington/morris/stacy in the 2nd and 3rd. Even if mccoy/shady/peterson are available to me?

Also, other keepers are mostly wrs and qbs, with forte and lacy being the only first round caliber rbs kept. So, wrs seem more at a premium.

ppr, fftoolbox.com has megatron as their #1 but thats the only site ive seen that thinks that way.

standard scoring, no way. but also this is a keeper, so im not sure who is available. how the hell is megatron available in a keeper?

guess i should have said keeper rules: only players drafted in rounds 2 and beyond are eligible, and you must keep them by giving up the round above where you drafted them in the following year. Megatron was drafted in the first, as usual.

I guess my point is why is this always the logic? Peterson was near the top last year and scored fewer points than the top receivers, yet nobody says draft a WR before peterson still today.

It's about point differential at positions, not which player scores the most points

For example

Jamal Charles, the #1 RB last season, outscored the #5 RB Marshawn Lynch by 100 points

#1 WR Demaryius Thomas outscored the #5 WR Brandon Marshall by 14 points

True, but the smart money was on these guys to be the top 5 running backs last year:

Peterson
Foster
Lynch
Martin
Rice

Wide receivers ended up way closer to their projections. Thomas was at 6 by most, but Megatron, A.J., Dez, Brandon, and Julio (one exception) were the top 5

yeah you dont win the league with one player. its about what you would be sacrificing to get that character. you have to remember you need to field a whole team.

so in gyno's example, its better to get charles and marshall than lynch and thomas.

go look up point totals last year and combine the two players you plan on taking. the difference is usually far greater between wr first/rb second than rb first/wr second

YOu need to make your own decision on who the smart money RB's are. AP was the only smart money back to get imo.
I put AP/Foster/Rice/Lynch/Charles/McCoy on my list of RB's to get in Round 1 with my last pick and i got McCoy. Didn't want Morris or Martin. Foster did fine when healthy. Rice was the only one that bombed.

These fantasy gurus aren't always great when it comes to making good conclusions with the info they get.

Lynch is listed as a top 5 RB this year
Gore is listed at 20th and going in the 5th round sometimes

The only difference bewteen these two guys in everything possible is that Gore is 2 seasons older, and Lynch has carried the ball 300+ times the last 2 years.
Seattle had 14 rushing tds last year, 12 from Lynch
SF had 18, 9 from Gore.
If they have similar seasons again, and Gore gets two more tds instead of Anthony Dixon getting them, they are pretty close to each other fantasy wise.

Is lynch really worth a top 5 pick?

If i were picking early, i'd go AP/Charles/McCoy/Forte if available, then Calvin.

No, but I'll give you a different reason why.

Sadly, I am of the belief Calvin is on the downward slope of his career. He takes/has taken such a beating and his 6-5 frame can't hold up. He's had knee issues for 2 years and will likely deal with the same thing this year.

Love Calvin as a player, but if you want a WR, go with Thomas. He'll finish as the top WR. Peyton is locked on to him with Decker gone. He could catch 120 balls

Disagree. The addition of golden Tate will keep defenses more honest and he will have to fight through less double teams. I think he stays healthy.

I know I just meant the physical wear and tear on his body from having to fight through 3 guys on every play

That's not it. He gets pummeled over the middle. It doesn't matter if he's in single coverage or triple coverage, he also seems to get rammed hard over the middle by a linebacker or a safety. Nothing is really going to change with Tate in that regard.

Because depending on where you draft like 3 or 4 hopefully you can get an elite RB and pick up an elite WR like Marshall or Jordy in the 2nd round
