What ever happen to this guy?

I thought he was a 5 star recruit. We use to make jokes about getting personalized "Freak" jerseys.

If he had decided to come back for his senior season would he even be a starter.

He's a rookie, give him time to adjust to the NFL. He didn't live up to the high expectations that some had for him. Recruiting rankings are not an exact science. Keep that in mind for this upcoming season with our true freshmen.

No doubt.

The drug test hurt his stock. He's described perfectly in the article - boom or bust. He'll catch on and thrive or fall off the map.

Yep, he was pretty much where he is now physically when he was like a soph. at OP Walker. Hence the nickname "Freak". There were some questions of work ethic at LSU as well, but I don't know how much of an impact that actually had on his development. Sometimes a guy just peak early and it isn't in the cards for him.

ETA: All of that saaid, people really overblow the whole notion that he was a "bust". He was a good and at times very good player for us (and he's got a damn good shot of making an NFL roster, which I believe precludes him from being deemed a bust).

I know, right? A guy in the running for a roster spot on the most elite level of football...what a failure

He was a starter last year and our other DTs lack his experience so yes, of course he would have been a starter....

Well I guess we have an explanation for why Freak went undrafted. Article says he failed a drug test at the combine.

I didn't know about the drug test....I've been to 2 practices and he has looked pretty good. I'm a long time Fins fan, so really pulling for freak to make the squad. We need Tigers!

He was a very highly rated player and broke state sack records. Excuse some of us if we expected big things from him.

I know it's Anthony Johnson but I keep reading this as Anthony Jennings every time I see this.

Long day I need sleep.

Define "big things." He was a starter and made some great plays. Yes he didn't dominate, but he was a GOOD player for the program. It's like some fans have a vendetta against players if they don't replicate high school accomplishments.

Detillier repeatedly make the comment that Freak had to learn to use his hands better. That's probably pretty close to why he never lived up to the great expectations.

Its because they tie their own identity to their ego and tie their ego to the players. If a player doesnt live up to their imaginary, self-involved, world expectations, they treat that player like soneone who hurt them on a personal level. Simple unhealthy crap.

That is the best armchair psychological analysis of rantards that I have heard yet.

He had surgery on his forearm before the draft and tried to be quiet about it. Didn't help his draft status
