Possible marriage proposal @ Texas Kickoff
Posted by biglil3 on 8/20/14 at 7:05 pm21
I'm at such a dilemma guys, so I figured this was the place to ask
My sister and her boyfriend(great guy) have been dating almost 2 yrs. He just asked me if it would be a good idea to propose to my sister at our LSU tailgate next Sat....I said frick no initially.
My sister absolutely loves LSU and going to games is one of her favorite things. He's not much of a fan but has been a good sport about it the last year or so because of her. It's kind of an odd pairing , but I am stoked to welcome him to our family. He confides in me at times basically because he's scared shitless of my parents.
Basically I'm torn now on the tailgate proposal. I think my sister would love the moment, but I'm just weird about people doing life changing, intimate things in a public setting. Am I being rationale by discouraging this, or am I just being an up tight a-hole?? Can't wait for the responses

If you think it would make your sister happy then go with that.

I don't want to call it trashy, because I want to be respectful, but it's probably not somewhere I'd ever consider proposing.

I vote no.
They will be all excited and telling everyone:
"Guess what? WE JUST GOT ENGAGED!" and I'd have to pretend I'm excited and happy for them, etc.
Just tell him to do it on another evening, etc.
It is certainly no big deal...but, I dislike these contrived "event" proposal deals.
either way, I wish them luck and happiness

This isn't about you- what would your sister want?
BTW- I think it is stupid but I isn't my proposal

What if LSU lost, would that be a bad sign of things to come in their relationship. I say get married at a tailgate. You have your friends there, boose, food, music. Your welcome. And make it one of those rent a game, games.

Wait until we beat Bama my friend ....then miles will slowly reach down for his usual helping of grass, but it won't be just grass. There will also be a ring then it begins my friend and your soon to be brother in law will be Ian Johnson for the night

Public engagements are a horrible and stupid idea.
As another has suggested, have him do it Friday night so SHE can announce it at the tailgate.
Hard to believe next weekend is the first game!

Hell no in no way:
""A man had 50 yard line tickets for LSU's first game of the season.
As he sat down, he noticed that the seat next to him was empty.
He asked the man on the other side of the empty seat whether anyone was sitting there.
"No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."
"This is incredible," said the first man.
"Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the LSU game, the biggest sporting event this weekend and not use it?"
The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away.
This will be the first LSU game we haven't been together since we got married in 1967."
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"
The man shook his head. "No, they're all at the funeral.""
This guy and many others would rather not be bothered with a marriage proposal.
