Will be in Cape/Port st.joe and looking for a few places that have dining on the beach(place sits on beach, has patio).
Looking for a nice place for anniversary, and one for place to hang out and party.

Schooners. They have live bands on most nights and the back patio area is right on the beach.

FireFly in Panama City
Sunset in PSJ is good
Awesome Riverfront places in Apalachicola
But...
If you want to eat at the best place hands down on the Florida Gulf Coast. It's a nice ride west along to Coast to Angelo and Sons.
Angelo and Sons NOT Angelo's Steak Pit

Captain Andersons has good food. No deck that I know of but some tables have a view of the bay.

Closed and is now Bud and Ally's out of Destin. Totally renovated the place and looks much better. To OP- I would go there, Schooners, and Firefly.

This, guaranteed BJs in the parking lot. Well, that's how it was 16 years ago when I went.

The Boatyard is closed, they put a new Bud and Allys there.
Crap: See Above Although they are reopening the BY in 2015 across the bay

One of the best meals of my life was at Firefly.
A bit pricey.
In a strip mall.
But if you want a great meal, this is the place!
She-Crab Soup, Crab Cakes, and the Grouper - out of this world. Very nice interior for a strip mall.
I would drive to this place for dinner if I happened to be within 100 miles of it.

The she crab soup there will help you realize there is a God.

Hang out and party = Sharkey's. I don't recall being blown away by the food and drinks but it is on the beach.
Also, though not on the beach, is Shuckum's. They provide some good oyster preparation. I like the bacon baked ones myself.

There are daily tours of the Panama Canal. One of true engineering feats of all time.
