So I did a search and didn't find a topic on this 2005 gem.

I just watched it for the first time last night and I was surprisingly impressed and satisfied.

I won't say too much other than it was a well-done horror/suspense flick.

What's your opinion, if you've seen it?

I really liked this movie. It did a very good job of setting an intense, unsettling tone before letting shite hit the fan. Just don't ever watch any of the sequels, they are pure shite.

I actually saw this in the theatre when it came out and I'm glad I did. I think you would have enjoyed that experience better. When they are climbing through those tight tight spaces, you can feel the claustrophobia setting in.

As said above, I didn't really care for the sequel.

Scares the shite out of me. I cant sleep without a night light for a week after I watch it. Sometimes I even run down the hall and jump in my parents bed.

Have you ever seen the "Uncut" UK ending? It makes the movie so much creepier.

I just watched the sequel today, and while it wasn't nearly up to par with the first film, it was fun to see Sarah kick arse some more.

It is one of the best horror movies ever. It's actually terrifying before a single monster shows up. I'm a huge fan of it.

Definitely had me feeling claustrophobic as hell.

SPOILERS

Do y'all think the creatures were real or in Sarah's head? I really like the idea that she made them up to cover the guilt that it was actually HER that killed all her friends. "The Descent" can be read as the descent into the cave or her descent into madness. The Uncut UK ending actually lends more cred to this idea.

Very cool film.

The Descent and 28 Days Later are, IMO, the two best English-made horror movies made in the new millenium. Unless I'm just glossing over an obvious choice, they have no peer. Truly scary and original.

Loved this movie. I actually bought it on DVD, and I don't buy movies...particularly horror movies.

+1

Definitely have to have them in your collection if you're a horror fan.

Agreed. I hate that I wrote off The Descent for so long. I chalked it up as another generic horror flick, but it's not. It's fantastic.

28 Days/Weeks Later are two of my favorites, as well. Just very good, subtle horror.

I really hate gore-fest horror movies that rely on jump scares. I'm a huge fan of understated, creepy horror. That's a big reason I like the Paranormal Activity movies so much.

The opening scene to 28 weeks later has to be one of the most intense opening scenes in film

For some reason The Descent fell flat for me...which could totally be on me. Need to give it another watch for sure.

Agreed. Unfortunately, it is followed by the rest of the movie.

really great horror flick. great build of suspense/setting/character. nothing groundbreaking, but just a solid effort made to details that so many horror movies seem to just gloss over. wasnt expecting much, but the left the theater and immediately told all my friends to check it out.

as far as the sequel, it plays more like what most probably thought/think the first was going to be like. i still think its pretty good, for what it is.

This is what most new horror misses out on - making you give a shite when a character dies. The Descent didn't miss that.

This is how I felt. If I hadn't become attached to Sarah in the first one, I wouldn't have liked the second, probably.

If y'all don't mind reading subtitles, check out Guillermo del Toro's The Orphanage. Very creepy and tense.

Definitely one of the best horror movies in recent memory, Marshall's original cut anyway. Great setting, acting and creature design.
