I've went on a couple Jam cruises 7-8 years ago. After 30 min of DB, me and my wife went to the room to frick. Just not for me, I guess.

in the mean time, send me a link if trey has a shred better than this

6.11.94 YEM
11.12.94 Harry Hood

8.16.93 Reba
10.31.94 Divided Sky
12.30.93 Mike's Song
11.14.95 Stash->Manteca->Stash

I want to make a quick detour for this point- I like Barber in more jazzy settings like 9.27.97 Wetlands. The Jam right before Mr Don is especially great. I also was a fan of the similar-sounding sideproject Kick Rocks , even though that seems it didn't get much love.

Heady you're fighting the good fight with Trey > Barber, but you know Burt isn't going to concede anything in this argument, right?

I could post 100 links of Trey fricking shredding it and it'd still be loltrey

the argument that trey is a good jam band guitarist is just kindof silly. I wouldn't even classify trey as a top 5 jam band guitarist

dan, wtf are you trying to say.

tDB > phish but

trey > barber
fishman > aucoin
mike > brownie
page > magner

just doesn't make any sense and I seriously doubt you listened to any of the links i posted. i think they would sway any heady bros opinion on the issue IMHO FWIW. pick a side motherfricker.

I, as a rule, basically never click on other peoples links, because lol @ other peoples opinions about things

But I clicked those heady links, and while those are massive jams, those are not links I would show to reveal Trey shredding shite around (althogh that Prauge piper is the sickness). A little too much emphasis on post-95 stuff. You want to hear Trey when he really had chops, you gotta go pre-96 imo.

Here are some I would post:

12/31/93 Auld Lang Syne > DwD Jam (and actually the SOAMelt this goes into is top fricking notch Trey action too)

12/1/95 DwD (start around 1:45 for the rage shite)

5/17/92 Possum

6/11/94 SOAMelt (you should really just listen to this Melt because it's just completely fricking disgusting)

7/2/97 Stash

And this ^^ is the most important jam I posted. this is why Trey is better. soul. real legitimate on stage inspiration. playing some shite that actually conveys emotion and spirit. not just lots of notes, real artful guitar playing.

It's a really good jam all around, but the theme that Trey starts at 20:30ish and jams off of for a while is the part to really pay attention to.

And here's one more example, not really of particularly skillfull playing, but Trey sort of leading the band into a full band rager climax. And doing some unique stuff I've never heard Barber do.

Basically Phish is taking the Biscuits bread and butter (full band building into climax jam) type of jamming, but doing it even better. And it's all Trey doing it.

Yeah, I chose stuff with video performance so you could actually see the guitar playing instead of just hearing it (especially for the '97 ones where there is a nice clear shot). Not much good video of pre-95. Although I still think that NYE '95 Weekapaug Groove video is a great example.

Summer 2000 had great stuff between Japan and the tour surrounding the 4th of July. Really wish we could get more boards from that stretch.

I don't what happened to sbds after '98 but it's fricking lame that they pretty much don't exist. I think there is something like 4 sbds circulating from all of 99. Some bullshite
