I am talking about those upper class neighborhoods like Highland Park, TX

How many of the residents in these neighborhoods have a house of cards of debt just so they can say that they live in these exclusive fancy neighborhoods? Piles of debt so high where one missed penny in a paycheck will send the entire house of cards tumbling down. But they do this all so they can say they live there and keep up with the Joneses.

This is my theory as to why so many of them are rude and stuck up, because of all the stress to keep up the image and mirage.

I would say more people do this than we think.
Just like the morons who make 35k a year and drive a 60,000 Mercedes because half of their paycheck each month goes to the lease payment. Hey just so they can say they drive a Mercedes.

I have a relative like this. Lives in a HUGE house in a gated community, just her and her dog. Furnished to the hilt. Cannot pay her light bill.

You realize that Mercedes start at around $30k, right? Yes, you can spend more but a lot of what you see on the road are the cheaper versions.

There is obviously some element of truth to your theory.

But there is a lot of stress and misery in slums and trailer parks as well.

I live on the edge of a neighborhood like that. if you go one block south of me, the houses are 200k more expensive. 5 blocks south, 500k more expensive. 10 blocks $1M more.

I don't really see that based off of my interactions. most of these people see very well off, based off their going to restuarants, the vehicles they drive, and designer dogs.

between this thread and your "matt Stafford is a douche because he's from highland park" post, something tells me someone from HP has done something pretty traumatic to you at some point down the line.

How about leasing an Audi and renting an apartment? My BIL is about to marry one like this and they just bought a house and she now is "looking for a job"

What's better?

Lower lifestyle but higher net worth? Or

Better lifestyle but lower net worth?

I would go with lower lifestyle but higher net worth.

eta; we recently bought a house, and you could tell the realtor and the finance guy talked b.c she was trying to steer us to nicer places. But we ended up buying one below our budgeted price.

I'd say the majority are in a better situation the median imcome neighborhood. I'm sure there are outliers that are maxed out, but I would say less than in a less expensive neighborhood. You just sound butthurt to be honest.
