Its kind of hard to find a GJ that doesn't have some political leanings, but the highlighted part is troubling IMO...

quote:

Rho Chalmers, who disclosed to the Houston Chronicle yesterday that she was a member of the grand jury that indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry, was an active delegate to the Texas Democratic Party convention during grand jury proceedings. Chalmers’ active participation in Democratic state politics is important because she claimed yesterday to the Houston Chronicle that her decision to indict Perry, a Republican, was not based on politics.

“For me, it’s not a political decision,” Chalmers told the newspaper. “That’s what a grand jury is about – take the emotion out of it and look at the facts and make your best decision based on your life experience.”

More troubling, however, is the fact that Chalmers attended, photographed, and commented on an event with Democratic state Sen. Kirk Watson while grand jury proceedings were ongoing.

Watson was a witness in front of the grand jury. On June 27, 2014, Chalmers shared a photo of the Watson event on a community Facebook page she started called Developer’s Dungeon. “Senator Kirk Watson telling the story of the Wendy Davis fillibuster (sic),” she wrote in a comment accompanying the picture.

It's a clear witch hunt over something 90% of politicians do in some shape, form, or fashion.

American politics has turned particularly nefarious over the past couple decades. Clearly I blame Obama.

I guess the Dem party has officially appropriated Jesse Ventura's personal motto, "Win if you can, lose if you must, but ALWAYS cheat!"

Grand Jury =/= Jury

Attorneys from both sides do no select Grand Jurors as they do Jurors. There is no Voir Dire. And a Grand Jury has 23 people on it.

Also, they serve for up to a year and hear a number of cases. Not just one.

No fricking shite

You don't see an issue with a member of the Grand Jury glad handing and smoozing with one of the witnesses in the case?

This indictment is ridiculous for a lot of reasons, but this post highlights that very few of you know shite about grand juries.

So its perfectly acceptable for a member of the Grand Jury to go out and have drinks and party with a witness in a case that they are considering?

If it is perfectly ok, then so be it... But it is completely fricked up. Especially in a politicized case like this.

And I am in no way defending Perry, I don't even like the guy.
