PC Police or classroom distraction?

Student's side of story:
quote:

A young girl, who claims she was standing up for her religious beliefs in the classroom, was suspended after breaking a class rule of saying "bless you" after a classmate sneezed.

When Dyer County High School senior Kendra Turner said bless you to her classmate, she says her teacher told her that was for church.

"She said that we're not going to have godly speaking in her class and that's when I said we have a constitutional right," said Turner.

Turner says when she defended her actions, she was told to see an administrator. She says she finished the class period in in-school suspension.

Students sent WMC Action News 5's Michael Clark a photo of the teacher's white board that lists 'bless you' and other expressions that are banned as part of class rules.

Misleading thread title is misleading. She was suspended for breaking class rules and then arguing with the teacher.

Maybe the other student didn't appreciate having her religious beliefs shoved down their throat.

You can't just have any rule that you want though.
This rule is wrong. It's against the Constitution.

The sad part about this is really saying "bless you" is nothing more than saying something like have a good day. I'm a Christian and if I said bless you to someone, I'm am by no means trying to shove my beliefs down anyone's throats.
I am simply extending a common courtesy to them.

In my mind it's literally no different to me than holding door for someone that's coming up behind you or saying excuse me if you bump into someone.

Why do people want to freak out if anything remotely related to a Christian belief comes into play.

By saying bless you, I'm obviously not God so I can't physically bless you so I'm literally doing nothing but extending a simple everyday courtesy of just being polite and nice

I guess I really shouldn't be surprised any more that people still get this so horribly wrong.

what is happening to this country?

Next a kid will be suspended for saying "Oh my GOD, it's hot in here." or for including "under God" in the pledge.

Eh, the teacher said you can't express your religious freedoms afforded to you by the first amendment. Had she just left it at, there will be no responses in my class to coughing or sneezing...no issue. But not being allowed to make "godly comments" in her class is an issue.

I remember we'd all say "bless you" when someone sneezed to be little shits, so that may be where the rule came from.

Or the teacher could be a miserable person.

I think he's referring to people saying that they can say whatever they want and not have to pay consequences for it.

The problem here is that saying "bless you" after someone sneezes isn't religious at all. Not anymore at least.
