Do you use a timer per pick in IRL drafts?

this is my first year as commish, im thinking of busting out a timer for each pick. We haven't done it in the past, we've kind of just let people take as long as they want. Just kind of bullshitting in between since we're all friends.

Yeah the two leagues I run that do IRL drafts don't use any timer. If someone is taking a while, everyone starts telling him something, but that's it. I like the 2 hours of bullshitting and everything that goes with it.
3 minutes sounds reasonable if you want to put something on the clock, though.

Nahh ours is pretty informal. We'll throw in jeopardy music to bust their balls if they're taking too long.
We do 12 teams 17 rounds and always wrap it up in ~3hrs.

Depends on if we are rushed or not. For instance in the league I am commish this year, we are setting a 2 minute timer as we usually have a couple of guys that take forever and others have obligations to meet later in the day.

Nah we don't use one. If someone is taking a while, we just rag on them until they pick

I agree. Three minutes per pick for 12 teams and 16 rounds is 576 minutes, which is more than 9 hours.
We do two minutes for each pick in the first two rounds and one minute per pick after that. Each team has two time outs, which can be used for potty breaks or technical difficulties.
But even with the timer, we're fairly good natured about it. The system was installed one year when one two-owner team attempted to draft with one owner absent. The owner who was present was trying to read all the prior picks to absent guy and then discussing the pick to make and taking for fricking ever. We've never had another issue, but we've used a timer every year since.
