Why didn't whites voting for Obama fix racial tension?

Widely recognized that white guilt played a role in the last 2 Presidential elections.
Why is it that whites showing up and voting up for the first black president* didn't fix racial tensions in this country? Wasn't that part of the goal? Weren't minorities supposed to understand that by electing Obama the country was now a color blind nation?
*with apologies to Bill Clinton

Because it isn't that simple

This just in....Obama was smoke and mirrors.

Because Obama did nothing to address the issues in the black community. Every poverty stricken black American walked around with a Chip on their shoulder in 2008 when Obama was elected thinking they were going to be lifted up because we finally had a black POTUS. He ignored everyone that elected him into office and continued to campaign after taking office, rather than lead.
Every single American that voted for him is now a pawn for what is transpiring. Obama being elected POTUS did more to divide the racial tension in this country than bridge it.

You certainly didn't help. You see, people like you are the yings to Al and Jesse's yang (not too racist, I hope).
You're two sides of the same coin, waiting to bounce off one another. One part profit, another part feigned outrage.
Seriously, given your perspective, you should get this on a much more fundamental level than I do. It's curious that you don't.

Obama grew up upper class in Hawaii to white grandparents. His father is from Africa not the ghetto where most of the animosity exists today .

I have learned to accept that racial tension will always exist in this country during my lifetime, therefore I don't spend much time worrying about it to be honest.
Like many of my threads, I am critiquing the narrative, not the situation.

Kind of off topic, but is there a country with large minority populations that doesn't have racial or ethnic tensions?

because they're not responsible for the racial tension. it's the white republican voters who are to blame. but we're doing our best though to bring you yokels around :- D

Nope. Whether it be race, religion or ethnicity, man has a vivid imagination for creating reasons to hate one another.

Why do white people ask stupid questions on the internet?
Posted on 8/19/14 at 9:34 pm to weagle99
Because Obama doesn't care about white people

There is no profit in fixing racial tension.

As long as not every single person in America is a fervent, devout Christian, there will be problems in this country. That's a fact.

You have no recollection of reading or hearing how the 2008 election was going to usher in a new era of post racial harmony? shite I can remember Tom Brokow almost weeping at the thought of how momentous an occasion it was in 08.

This. His administration had the potential to do so much good, but he instead chose to play politics and find ways to divide instead of unite. He could've done a lot of good by going to the heart of issues that are within the black community.
