I still think we end up going with Porter this season, but after this season do you think he remains at center or they move him out to Tackle. Right or left depending on if we switch Hawkins over if he stays or not. IMO they should move him back out to tackle he's a good body and built for it with long arms, and it would be great having a left tackle that played center before know all the calls and what everyone is suppose to do on the line. Thoughts and opinions?

May not necessarily be lining up at center.

Wow. Our center is a senior. Pocic must be balling.

Good article on Grimes working with them to look more at the entire defense, including understanding coverages...

quote:

“I really asked the players to learn the game of football,” Grimes said. “Not just understand your role on this play but to see the whole field, understand coverages, recognize keys to zone pressure. A lot of things a lot of offensive linemen don’t get.”

That means studying for a group of players never before expected to learn if a secondary is playing man or zone and if safeties are in a Cover-2 or Cover-3.

Imagine a dozen 300-pounders gathered in a room studying the Xs and Os of a defensive secondary.

They’ve been having fun with it. You know, challenging each other with pop quizzes.

So who’s the smartest?

Right guard Evan Washington breaks into a big chuckle.

“I’d like to say myself,” he said, “but probably Ethan Pocic.”

Improvement on what we had, in more ways than one.

And what we had recruited the guy this thread is about

I see Porter keeping the starting job as well, but Pocic will be a valuable backup at potentially every position on the line. He'll see plenty of time, even if he doesn't start. Next year we'll have to replace at least 4 OL starters, and Pocic will definitely have a starting role. He'd do well at either center or tackle, but I agree with putting him at LT.

Probably going to be Hawkins, which is balling because Pocic could easily be there. The coaches will have to wait and see how the 3rd team center is. If they can start, then Pocic will be able to play anywhere. I could easily see him being a more athletic Barrett Jones, playing all over the line. Pocic' brother was a pretty good center and about the same size.

Pocic has had many of the 1st Team reps at Center for being a supposed back-up; more than Porter...it will be interesting

Ethan has a future somewhere and perhaps everywhere on the OL. He played some last year and looked good as a true, not dominant but good.

When I think of 2015, there seems to be one possible weakness and it is huge...OL. At least 4 of the top 7 at this point in time are SR's. I would love for Hawkins and Alexander to return, but who knows.
If they do not, we have to hope that Pocic, Boutte, Dodd, Malone, Brumfield, Clapp, Demond and the true freshman are players or it might derail an extremely promising season. I'm not worried about Pocic in this regard. I'm sure some of the others will be good and perhaps great, but in my mind none of us have seen it yet. Seeing is believing for me. Actions always will speak louder than words in everything.

What if a coach says good words about a player's actions?
