We are planning to start saving money by purchasing meat / cheese / fuit / etc. in bulk when on sale at the grocery by vacuum sealing the contents for freezing.

Anyone have any tips or product recommendations?

I can't wait to buy every single fiesta salmon patty at HEB when they are on sale now.

See my answer in this thread.

Look at the resealable bag option.

Thanks.. resealable sounds like the way to go.

Is FoodSaver the most economical brand?

I really haven't compared brands or prices, but I've had my Foodsaver a long time with no issues whatsoever. There was another thread on this some time ago, but I haven't found it.

This one was recommended in a few short threads I found and it's the one I would probably buy if I was buying a new one right now. I may get a new one anyway just to have that zipper bag option.

I prefer vacmaster over food saver. Want a chamber machine, but until then the Vacmaster PRO 140 has been awesome for everything from storing meat to sous vide cooking.

Vacmaster has been much more reliable than previous food savers. Doesn't overheat when sealing a bunch of stuff and on the delicate setting it doesn't crush my fish filets.

Foodsaver was great til it broke. Got about 10 years out of it, and used it to put up vegetables from the garden and meat during hunting season. More than paid for itself, but I've gotta replace it before shrimp season is over and opening day of deer season (this summer's vegetables and fruit are in zip locs).
