Sorry if already discussed, I searched and didn't see it. I thought it was pretty cool.

This has been discussed earlier I think, but Hanks did not audition. Those are screen tests for the other actors/actresses. Hanks was huge back then. They approached him for the role.

Sorry, was just going off of whatever it said as the title.

Mods feel free to delete as it's not as advertised apparently.

One of my favorite roles of his was actually Ray Peterson, in the burbs.

Wow he got wayyy better in the film.

The forrest jr. discovery scene is one of the most emotional scenes in film IMO

They definitely had to "dumb him down" a little more than in that video. He nailed the role and I am not sure anyone else could have come close.

I believe I read somewhere that Hanks based his character on the actor who played little Forrest. Apparently, that's the way that the little Forrest actor actually talks and Hanks used it to form his on-screen character.

Haley Joel Osment is from California so I doubt he really spoke like that. I don't remember him sounding retarded in The Sixth Sense which was just a few years later.

Think he means Forrest, when he was a kid.

It still blows my mind that Tom Hanks was chosen for this role.

I remember seeing the trailer for it the first time and thinking it was a bad joke.

What I did not realize was that the movie was going to stray VERY FAR from the book, have a new ending, and going in very different directions.

Unfortunately, the choice of a smallish actor in Hanks prevented them from including some of the funniest parts of the book, particularly the professional wrestling part and him playing football at Alabama. The astronaut stuff and him working as an actor in the Creature From the Black Lagoon stuff was hilarious too.

I'd love to see someone re-make this film, and be true to the original story.

Yeah, meant to say "Young Forrest", not "Little Forrest."

They filmed all of the Young Forrest stuff first so Hanks was able to develop his Adult Forrest character before he began filming.

Wow, Robin Wright is actually pretty amazing in that video. I've sat through countless auditions before, and that was perfect.
