Should I jump up to the Cabelas commercial grade one or remain with Foodsaver? I've had this one for over a decade now. I looked at the current models and they can get pretty fancy. Any opinions on why I shouldn't just get a comparable model to what I had and worked for what seemed like forever?

I don't know anyone with the Cabelas version... I'm in your camp in that I've had this same old white one for damn near 10 years and it still works on a weekly basis. Every piece of meat i freeze i seal with it.
maybe just stick with it.

I'm in the same boat and out of bags so the next time I go to Costco I'll be picking up one with a slew of free bags.

I would get whatever model is easy to clean and I saw some resealable bags that can be used with one of the newer models. I'd really like to have that option when mine dies.

Picked up the Foodsaver 4865 last night. It is pretty awesome compared to my last one that was very old. It's almost effortless now. I tested it on a family pack of chicken and I did the whole pack in less than 5 mins. With the cutting of the rolls and all of that mess it would have been much more time consuming with the old one.
Gris Gris, this is the one that works with resealable bags and containers as well and I bought some. I haven't tried them out yet but I like having the option.
Not my image, got it off of google but this is the one I got:

Buy your bags or rolls on eBay or amazon
I typically buy 100 qt sized bags at a time for about 20 bucks shipped and they work fine with my food saver
Look on eBay for the ones with good feedback. They are generic bags but work great

I love the look of that one and what it does. Let me know how it performs as you use. I've been thinking about upgrading even though my old one works just fine. I'd love to be able to reseal some things I freeze. I end up using a brand new bag after taking a few things out or freezing a lot of little bags which take time.

I'll take over 10 years of solid performance for a kitchen appliance any day. If you think it's junk, then so be it. My junk works great....wait, what?

You replace your appliance every 10 years....I'll make 80lbs of sausage with no wait time in between vacs 4 times a year and keep mine for life.

The Weston is good, though at that price it is hard not to jump up to a chamber sealer.
At a lower price point, I like the Vacmaster PRO 140. I burned through several food savers. The pull is better on the vacmaster, it does not overheat nearly as much if ever and the delicate setting actually works well for fish.
Double seal bar with a strong pump.
If you want to step up, spend the $600-700 and get a chamber sealer.
