Pretty decent if I remember correctly. Much better than what the actual franchise had become

Should be a classic, but it isn't.

To me, it's the third best in the series after parts 1 and 3.

Should have been considered groundbreaking due to it's "reality" spin. Instead, it still has the stigma of "just another Freddy movie".

was Wes Craven's nightmare supposed to be that Freddy comes into our reality or is the movie supposed to be happening in real time?

I have always thought it was great and one of the cooler concepts for a horror film.

The only thing missing was a Johnny Depp cameo. He would have done it too but Craven assumed he was too big a star and didn't ask.

that's what happens when one assumes, and the worse that could've happen is Depp turns down the cameo

More or less this but "Freddy" was a manifestation of some demon or something that Wes Craven was trying to keep locked in with his writing, IIRC.

I thought it was very good and the only legit "scary" Nightmare movie (the original, IMHO, was more creepy than scary) It went off the rails just a touch at the end but still pretty good overall.

I remember now because Wes has to keep writing the Nightmare series in order to keep the demon from getting out into our reality

It's pretty solid. It's very meta, like Scream before Scream, basically.

I think it is the beginning of this current epoch of horror films, later made more popular by Scream. The meta-horror was essentially born with this movie, and it is pretty great. Huge fan.

But I'm actually sorta glad its not a hit. Wes still made his money off of Scream, but I like this little cult movie out there.

It had potential, the story.. but it's execution was rather weak.

Depp said he would have been in it too, but was never asked. They didn't even bother asking him because they felt he would say no. Shame.

Scream's daddy. The Cabin in the Wood's grandpa.

I think it's the best in the entire franchise.
