what in the ever living fack was that ending?

I know I'm late to the party, and it has probably been talked about many times, but dammit man. I had to rewind just to make sure my TV didnt screw up. Great show, but horrible, horrible ending.

ETA: I've had a change of heart, it was actually pretty good.

yeah I'm reading some stuff that makes it seem less of a slap in the face, but still, I wanted to see it go down.

Read this: LINK

It's a LONG read, but it breaks down the last scene and explains what is going on. After reading this I think it was a perfect ending.

Amazing ending.

I was a little confused at first, but when I read up on it I just watched it over and over.

Very Lazy ending. Appropriate but lazy. I felt so unsatisfied.

I read something that was probably similiar last night, and it did help shed some light on it. It was definitely clever and well thought out, but...ahh idk. Maybe I'll appreciate more as time goes on. I made this thread right after I finished it. I was just stunned

the article I read that had the quote from Bobby along the lines of "you'll probably never even hear it" or something like that did kind of dampen my anger, though.

yes bobby's line in "soprano home movies" pretty much tells you all you need to know.

members only guy pops tony after coming out of the bathroom.

There's just so many signs.

He replays that you never hear it line at the end of the second to last episode, the last episode starts with a view that looks like tony in a coffin, Tonys favorite scene is the restaurant scene in the godfather, not to mention the point of view repetition

see I felt that was obvious, and yet the articles I read spelled that out like people didnt know it was coming for some reason. that guy was a twitchy frick.

I hope he shot AJ too

Kind of agree - makes Walt Junior look great by comparison.

And I'll say something unpopular - Meadow wasn't all that and a bag of potato chips - if she wasn't a cute chick, and didn't share a lot of scenes with AJ (who would make anyone look good, by comparison) - SHE would be the AJ or Walt Junior of The Sopranos.

Best finale of all time. What else would you expect to see after you die? Nothing. Tony is dead and we got to witness it from his POV. Genius.

it was clever no doubt.

The sudden switch to POV was unnatural to me, though.

my question is, why was Tony popped? It looked like the beef with NY was squashed

And it had to end that way. It took a while to
"congeal" with me, but I completely get it now. I originally bought into the whole "ambiguous" ending theories and that, maybe he got whacked, maybe he didn't - he'll have to look over his shoulder (if not) for the rest of his life and worry about the family, etc.

But, I get it now - I was completely paranoid and anxious watching the scene (which I've only watched once) - waiting, watching, this guy, that guy - and finally, I did kind of relax - then - :blackness:

Very brilliant. It is better when they're understated - take my other GOAT shows. Hill Street Blues - the "grandfather" (if you will) of all these gritty dramas, at least in my book - to take a police procedural, expanded cast, and do things that hadn't been addressed - we see a whole new crew (effectively, the night shift) and a guy answers the phone, "Hill Street station? Yeah. We're still here."

Or the wordless final scene of The Shield - brilliant acting and direction.

Or the wonderful (also wordless) final scene of Breaking Bad? Or the closing montage of The Wire, almost the "circle of life", but for Baltimore...

In order to be considered for GOAT - you have to have a great ending. Although polarizing, Sopranos has one of the best ever.
