The so called winners of the trade deadline are really struggling since then. Would be a disaster for Oakland if they have to go against King Felix in a one game playoff and then lose Lester in the offseason.

Detroit is in serious jeopardy of not making the playoffs at all, but at least they have Price for next year.

Why would you say that? Oakland was the best team in baseball and didn't really have any holes on the team. Led the majors in runs scored, solid pitching staff and defense. They tinkered a lot with a roster that needed little tweaking.

And this is with Detroit getting not one, but two former Rangers closers in separate deals (Nathan as a FA, Soria in a trade).

I doubt they'll go for the trifecta and make a deal for Neftali Feliz.

The last deadline deal that worked out was Cliff Lee in 2010

Since then its been nothing but flops

Greinke in 2012 for the Angels stands out

Garza last year for the Rangers, Dempster in 2012

I don't think the trade for Detroit is why they're struggling. They have been terrible in the 9th inning and injuries are piling up for their pitching staff. Also their hitting has not been timely.

This isn't really the right way to frame it IMO. Both Price and Lester have pitched well. Someone could easily counter by asking what their records would be without either guy

Cespedes has been bad with Boston. Smyly does look like he's doing well. Plus it hasn't even been three weeks yet
