If he's good enough he will play this year even if it means not playing against Wisconsin in the opener. Injuries could play a factor as well where he might have to play out of necessity. A lot will depend on his conditioning and even though he reports he still cannot have contact until he goes through acclimation period.

I think a lot of it depends on how quickly Quentin Thomas rehabilitates

I don't think there is a date you have to decide if a player redshirts.

some guys(like loston in 09) play in a game or two then get redshirted either because they get knicked up or they won't be in the rotation at their spot, so not really a deadline per se

I think he will play but not sure how productive he will be with the lack of conditioning.

I doubt he redshirts. He's probably not ready to play consistently due to conditioning, but I imagine he'll see some reps during the season after he's been practicing for a couple of months. There's really little point in redshirting a guy of his potential considering the amount of guys leaving early with eligibility left. The days of "wasting a year" seem to be in the past. If he can contribute and get better this year in anticipation of a greater role in 2015, that's worth burning the redshirt.

If he is as good as advertised and comes in in decent shape, he won't red shirt. It's tough to go the whole year without injuries, and by mid-year he should be solidly up to speed on the system.

IF he took the summer off and is not in solid shape, then he'll dress and not play, IMO

This topic probably belongs on the rant.

Depends on what kind of shape he is in and how effective he is at the little practice he will get.

If you watch his tape, I think both of these things are longshots. People need to temper their expectations for him a little as a true freshman. Not that he isn't good, but I think most of his rating came from his potential. He has a lot of bad weight to lose and technique to learn. I hope he redshirts, but I'll let the coaches make that call.

I'd say there is a great chance he redshirts because:
(1) He has missed almost the entirety of fall camp;
(2) DT is a position in which true freshman rarely touch the field for any SEC school, let alone LSU.

That said, LSU is very thin at the position, so....

LSU isn't thin at DT. They are young at DT:
Lacouture
Thomas
Herron
Bain
Gilmore
Valentine
Godchaux
Trey L (redshirt)
