What spots would you recommend for some day drinking?

So far I'm looking at Rusty Nail, Lucy's, and Pat O's.

Also, what are some good casual restaurants to check out? Somewhere that shorts and flippy floppys would be perfectly acceptable. I already plan to get oysters and softshell crab from Casamento's on my way in.

I hope this isn't planned for today, as Casamento's is closed. As for day drinking, Avenue Pub, either Bulldog can be good spots, as well as the ones you've stated.

For day drinking, I usually hit Finn's or the Avenue. Tons of casual lunch places, more of a question of what type of grub: Steins, Butcher, Coop's.

or the Avenue
Is this the one on St. Charles with the great bourbon selection?

I don't believe that Casamento's opens till after Labor Day.

Avenue is noted for its beer selection. Is a full bar, but I've never really ever heard anyone extoll its virtue as a bourbon place. For bourbon, the best places I've found are dba on Frenchman and Oxalis in the Bywater (but, neither open till the evening).

I can vouch for their Bourbon selection upstairs. I know they were promoting it several months ago and had some great bartenders that knew their shite.

Haven't heard much lately though.

I had a friend who was there last week. He sent me pics of the list and it was very impressive. Had all pappy, BTAC, and most other ltd releases at decent prices.

If you are on the quarter early in the day, I love getting a bloody mary and sitting by the open windows at Mollys at the Market. Great people watching.

Yes. Avenue is known as a beer bar, but they are also know as an all around great bar. Beware, it is a smoking establishment. It's no smoking upstairs, but upstairs is not always open.
