I promised R2R I'd make this thread, so here it is. My new barrel cooker was delivered today, so tonight I'm making dinner on it. I got started later than I wanted to (painting and updating our house), so this will be an in game thread. So on to the cooking.

Here are some pics of the Pit Barrel Cooker:

And here's what I'm cooking:

The cooker included a bottle of all purpose rub, which s what I used on both meats. I split the chicken in half and removed the membrane from the baby backs. Then I applied the rub and put the hooks in.

The ribs will take longer than the chicken, so I started them 40 minutes before the chicken at 6PM. Here's a pic of them hanging:

That's all I have for now. Will update as more things happen. Planning for everything to be done around 9.

Do you have a 22 inch weber?
If do use the lid from it on your barrel. That way your smoke will 'roll'

But yea that's awesome, keep us updated and if you need any taste samplers just let me know!

$290 including shipping. Ordered on Tuesday and got it today. The owner is really nice and includes his cell number with purchase if you ever have any questions or anything. And everything about it is high quality. Hopefully the food comes out the same way

Chicken and ribs after an hour and 45 minutes:

I pulled the ribs to put some sauce on them for the final 20 minutes. Here's how they looked without sauce:

And with sauce:

Pics of finished product coming soon.

Do they have a website that sells the cooker?

Yea. just add .com to the name. Not sure if posting links to businesses like that is OK here.

Not trying to steal your thunder but if y'all would google or youtube 'ugly drum smoker' you could do this on your own for VERY little $$

Yea, but this product takes all the guess work out of it and has been designed to work a particular way.

But you're definitely right that they can make a similar cooker for less on your own.

And for the results now that I've eaten and cleaned up

Sorry for the blurry pic. It was hot and I was hungry

Everything was fantastic. Ribs were juicy, but didn't fall apart when you ate them (just how I like them). The chicken's skin was super crispy, and the rub was delicious. Very happy with my first cook on the PBC, looking forward to trying more stuff. It's very simple to use, pretty much the definition of set it and forget it. I know some people will think that's the easy way out or a cop out to true BBQ, but the results speak for themselves.

ETA: Wanted to clarify about the ribs. The meat was tender and came apart when I bit into it. It wasn't tough or anything.

Any indirect cooking techniques?

Would be too scared of dripping flares causing temp control difficulties and fire hazards
