Adata thumb drive --Can't format, all data looks like its gone

Plug the drive in and it shows up but says it needs to be formatted. Begin the format process and get an error that its protected and cant be formatted. Problem is there is not protection on it or button/switch lock. Any ideas how to format or wipe it clean?
