Due to the piss poor xbone Destiny thread a few days ago and to show the xbone dominance over the PSpoor thread, I took it upon myself to compile info for the uninformed/hipster gamers (raincloud/murdah/carson). I will be adding info as the game draws near, so feel free to put your gamertag in the thread and I will update it as I go.

Story

The stories tell of a golden age long ago, when our civilization spanned the system. It was a bright and hopeful time. But it didn't last.
Something hit us. Knocked us down and tried to stamp us out. No one knows exactly what, but we do know this: very few of us survived, and those that did owe their lives to the The Traveler.

Legends say The Traveler sacrificed itself to save us. The mysterious sphere still hangs where it made its last stand, low above the Earth, keeping silent watch.

The years that followed the collapse of the golden age were hard, but slowly we joined together to build a city beneath The Traveler. And now we've begun to venture back into the wild, only to find that we're not alone. Strange and deadly creatures have occupied our old worlds. And they're pressing hard against The City, probing for a weakness, trying to stamp us out for good.

Your story begins at this moment of great adventure and peril. You are a Guardian of The City; a soldier able to wield some of The Traveler's incredible power. If you can find a way to save The City -- to reclaim all that we have lost -- you will become legend. If you fail, the last light of civilization will go out.

What exactly is Destiny?? MMOFPS, MMORPG, Borderlands/Diablo?

Bungie and Activision describe Destiny as a "shared world shooter," stating that the game really does not fit squarely into other genres such as FPS, RPG, or MMO. "Shared world shooter" means that the game can be played solo or in small groups, and player advancement does not necessarily rely on other players.

Destiny will feature a persistent, dynamic, online world that includes realistic changes of light and weather.

Destiny's story will unfold like a series of books and chapters.

Destiny will have several game modes. Bounty resembles a "raid" in a traditional MMO and successful bounties can result in rewards of weapons, armor, and items. Competitive multiplayer will occur as well, though players will have to voluntarily enter into it.

Bungie describes Destiny as resting on seven "pillars" essential to creating a great video game:
1. A world players want to be in.
2. A bunch of fun things to do.
3. Rewards players care about.
4. A new experience every night.
5. Shared with other people.
6. Enjoyable by all skill levels.
7. Enjoyable by the impatient and distracted.

Combat/Game Modes

Destiny is, first and foremost, an action-based first-person shooter. Depending on the game mode, player combat takes place cooperatively with other players against a variety of hostile alien species and/or against each other.

Depending on a player's class and skills, he or she may employ a variety of weapons, armor, grenades, melees, and abilities to defeat his or her foes. Combat mechanics are similar to those found in most modern first-person shooters. The default perspective is from the first-person perspective, with a simple heads-up display (HUD), the player's gun barrel visible, and a reticule on the HUD showing the approximate impact zone of any rounds fired. Players can also switch to an aiming-down-the-sight (ADS) view that magnifies targets, slows player movement, and places the weapon's sight or scope in the center of the screen for greater accuracy. When the player uses a Super Ability, the perspective briefly switches to third-person for the duration of the super ability animation.

Player Classes

In addition to choosing to play as one of several species, Destiny players choose to play as one of several different player classes. Though each player class in Destiny has a distinct appearance, dress, and skill set, player classes are designed to be balanced, with no class intended to be clearly better overall than any other.

There are three player classes available to choose in Destiny:

Hunter
Titan
Warlock

Differences between Player ClassesEdit
The Hunter, Titan and Warlock classes have different subclasses, abilities, armor, and other attributes. Please visit the linked articles to find out more detailed information:

"Hunters are the reconnaissance masters of the Last City, who seek, find and destroy those who want to end Humankind's seed."

"Titans are the powerful mechanistic soldiers of the Last City, equipped with powerful weapons and indomitable advanced mech-like suits of fiercely devastating power."

"Warlocks wield the power of 'spells' to complement their weapons and to overpower their enemies."

Destiny Launch

Destiny will launch simultaneously on September 9, 2014 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One consoles worldwide, except for in Japan, where Destiny will be exclusively released on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. At Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal event in February 2013, Bungie and Activision also announced that Destiny will launch with "exclusive playable content" for Sony platforms. Destiny has not been announced for any other platform, and Bungie has stated that developing the game for other platforms would spread the company too thin (though the developer has not ruled out the possibility of a launch on PC at some point in the future).

Though the launch date was originally expected to be in Q3/Q4 2013, the launch was delayed. Bungie launched limited alpha and public beta tests during the summer of 2014 and confirmed Destiny's launch date to be 9 September 2014.

Game Modes

- Raid is a game mode available in Destiny. Raids are six-player cooperative events that are of extreme difficulty, and require communication between players to succeed. They are designed for teams of players that have extensively upgraded their focuses, armor, and weapons and are seeking a difficult end-game challenge. Raids will not support matchmaking.
IGN interview explaining Raids

- The Crucible is Destiny's competitive player-vs-player (PvP) multiplayer game mode.[1]

For completing Crucible matches, Guardians gain Crucible Marks and Crucible Reputation, which can be used to purchase special weapons and armor in the Tower. Players can also earn loot by completing matches.[2]

- Explore (originally known as Patrol) is a game mode available in Destiny. Explore allows players to freely roam in a location. Players can battle enemies, locate and accept faction missions, partake in Public Events, or simply explore at their own liberty.

- A Strike is a cooperative game mode available in Destiny. A Strike is a structured, progressive, cooperative adventure "ideal for pick-up groups or friends looking for a quick battle together." Strikes are replayable, designed for three-person Fireteams, and usually take 15-30 minutes to complete.

Strikes always begin in a public area, so the Fireteam can begin participating in public events, encounter other Fireteams, or explore. When the Fireteam enters the "Strike proper," it becomes private, and the Fireteam will no longer encounter other players. At that point, players go through a structured, crafted mission that culminates in one or more boss battles.

There is much debate going on if you have been paying attention to the back channels concerning your allegiance.

Two things I'm pumped about:
1) Being able to raid without playing WoW.
2) Turtle Beach Wireless 7.1 Surround Headset, so that I can walk to the fridge and get beer with 7.1.
