It looks like we'll be able to patronize Uber and AirBnB with Bitcoin fairly soon.

Consumers may soon be able to pay for their Airbnb rentals or Uber car rides using bitcoin.

EBay Inc. has been quietly working to integrate acceptance of the virtual currency into its Braintree payments subsidiary, part of its PayPal unit, according to people familiar with the matter.

Those people said PayPal officials have meet in recent weeks with several companies that facilitate bitcoin transactions, including Coinbase Inc. PayPal has yet to reach any agreements, the people said. The timing of when Braintree would accept bitcoin is dependent in part on such a deal.

Braintree provides software for payments processing to many online and mobile companies like Uber and Airbnb.

EBay and PayPal wouldn't initially accept bitcoin, the people familiar with the matter said, but that could change over time. EBay Chief Executive John Donahoe told The Wall Street Journal last year that he was considering ways to use bitcoin.

Why has the price of BTC dropped $100/each (15%) in the past 8 days?

Would they actually accept/hold Bitcoin or just allow you to convert it to dollars at the sales point?

Coinbase gives you the option to keep any percentage of the sale in bitcoin that you'd like.

What does your question have to do with PayPal's exploration into bitcoin acceptance?

Apparently not, but it's getting old seeing them. I'd be fine if I never saw another breathless "OMG, look who's accepting Bitcoin" post when, in reality, Bitcoin is not being accepted and the vendor is just integrating a way to seamlessly convert Bitcoin to dollars at spot prices, then accepting the dollars.

Wiki was way better at this game.

Why don't you just answer the question?

Pro tip, the answer is no to holding BTC.

They are not fools. They can see that BTC has lost over 20% of its value in the past 7 days. That kind of volatility will prevent BTC from ever becoming considered a useful 'currency.'

Wiki challenged me to keep posting when "bitcoin was $1000" again.
I told him it would never see that number again and only a fool didn't sell when it hit that number.

Well, here I am.

We accept Bitcoins!!!

*disclaimer* Well, we won't accept the bitcoins. You have to go see that guy over there and give him your bitcoins and then he'll give us real money.

These bitcoin threads used to be a fun little distraction from real life. Now they're just kind of sad.

Well, wiki and josh may not know what they're talking about but my prediction that bitcoin's ultimate fate (indeed, probably the goal all along in order to get absorbed by them) to become a Paypal clone is coming to fruition.

Maybe I should take the mantle as resident bitcoin expert. Any objections?
