At the PGA last week, while walking down the 17th, he had kids running under the ropes on the fairway signing his autograph….there was this dude right next to me next to the ropes yelled at him, "Hey John, can I bum a cig form you?"….Daly proceeded to take out his carton of cigarettes while walking toward us and hand his last one to the guy.

Never in the course of human history has a man prayed for his 50th birthday to hurry up and get here more then John Daly.

Met him at Augusta two years ago. He was the nicest dude ever.

My quick JD story . I'm in Memphis 10-12 yrs ago to see him play St.Jude, he tees off at 10 that morning. At 955 he's nowhere to be found the officials are huddling, crowd is murmuring . At 959 he runs through crowd straight from the parking lot with shirt untucked and a cig in his mouth carrying only his driver. The announcer is in the middle of his intro when JD hits a 100 yd snap hook and he's off with a caddy running after him. The crowd went wild ...csb

He was our special guest for a golf tournament we had when I was casino hosting in Vegas a few years back.

Never forget we paid him $50K to show up to dinner night before and to come to course in the morning to hit some drives. That night our credit manager gave me the $50K check to bring to his room, I brought it up and his manager just said "Go back down to the cage and deposit it into his account, Jon is going to gamble tonight after the dinner"

I left work about 2am and he was still at it, came back to work about 7am before the course and looked up his play. He lost around $650k in about 8 hours.

I will say this though, he showed up on time to everything and was extremely nice to everyone and signed books, balls, clubs, etc.. Watching him drive up that close is a sight to see as well. Super nice guy.
