So long story my brother passed away. When your family passed do you buy flowers for the funeral or is that something that friends/other family send? Mom is asking about it because she doesn't know. However I don't know who typically sends flowers so I am asking the only random geniuses I know here at the OT. Thanks guys. You still suck 99% of the time.

Sincerely sorry for your loss.

Y'all will buy the casket flowers, all others are gifts.

Sorry to hear about your brother.

Scruffy hasn't purchased flowers for any of the funerals he has been to, but they weren't as close relatives as that.

And Scruffy only sucks 97% of the time.

Sorry for your loss.

The dead don't care about flowers. There will be enough. Just be there for your loved ones. For yourself.
It's a horrible thing to go through. It's material and macabre and rather silly.

Don't worry too much about it. Just be there.

May I ask how old he was and the circumstances of his death?

That's rough. Unfortunately I don't know the answer. I lean towards y'all purchasing the flowers either through the home or a florist.

Also, any florist or funeral home will help you with all your questions.

man, I am so sorry to hear this...Darla Hood's post is correct...the funeral director will organize and explain all of this...

I speak from experience when I tell you that it is very hard to exercise restraint when grieving, so be available to help your mom to make rational decisions and not overextend when arranging this...also, be prepared to pay immediately when making the arrangements...

When Shelby Holmes died, and with him being a Saints and an LSU fan, I bought a wreath that was 1/2 LSU and 1/2 Saints and then I laminated pictures of him and attached them to the wreath.

Some of his family members took some pictures; the rest were given to his mom.

Agree with everyone else who said family only buys the casket flowers.

Heroman's is a good florist in BR.

Sorry for your loss.

I actually hate the smell of flowers from having to go to so many funerals. Casket flowers will be on the family, stand flowers are gifts.

And I went to school for botany.

Agree, the smell of flowers at a funeral is nauseating. All funerals smell the same. That scent was burned into my memory 50+ years when my dad died. Funeral homes should use some type of air fresheners that smell like real flowers or florists could put natural floral oils in bouquets. That smell is positively putrid.

This is correct. The family buys the casket spray but you certainly can buy others if you like. I've buried a brother as well and it's a very hard thing to do.

What you have to do is like Spankum said. Unfortunately there is a business side of death and you have to be prepared because it can get very expensive. I've declined all limo use in the 7 funerals I've had to take care of. Concrete vault, nice but not over the top casket, basic register, I do pay for police escort etc...Obituary is by the line and I read some and think when they get this bill they are going to shite.

Pay attention. It can be very dignified without being very expensive.

And I'm very sorry for your loss. It doesn't get better with time, I won't lie. It just gets time from it. You, your mother and your family were blessed with Gods special grace, that of a brother and son. Be thankful for that and having him in your life for as long as you did.

It's sad how expensive it can be, on top of losing someone irreplaceable.
