Why does LSU ever lose to Ole Miss and Arkansas?

This, to me, seems like it should never happen. Besides 2011, why LSU doesn't play well against either team is very hard for me to understand. Will someone who understands explain why these two teams score more points than LSU after 4 quarters?

Law of averages.

You're welcome...

We are their superbowls and our players rarely take them seriously

Well, to be fair, we've lost to Arkansas only 3 times in the past 11 meetings.

Well sometimes they score points than us. That is the main reason.

This isn't unique to Miles either. Saban had the same damn problem. Frustrating

Because in every game, there are 11 individual competitions each play. Sometimes the other team plays better than the other. It's football.

Nothing should "never" happen, but yes, LSU should beat these teams much more often than lose to them.

Not sure I am "someone who understands", but it seems to me that LSU just doesn't put the emotional emphasis on these games that Arkie and Ole Miss do. I can't remember when anyone associated with LSU has gone into a season thinking "Wow, it would be so awesome to beat (Ole Miss or Arkansas, take your pick) this year!" They go into pretty much every season thinking that about LSU. It's a huge game for them and just not as big for us, so they play above their heads and we don't.

What's strange is why they focus so much on LSU, but just seem to ignore Alabama and lay down for them without even trying to put up a fight.

It's frustrating as hell, I know, but the alternative is to be as bad as they are so that they become big games for us, too. No thanks.

This is true, and it's also true that we've only lost to Ole Miss 3 times in the last 12 meetings, but the problem is that all six losses to the two of them combined have happened in the last 7 seasons, so we're a combined 8-6 against them in those 7 seasons. Clearly, given the levels of the programs, this is an anomalous result that has nothing to do with the relative quality of the teams or the law of averages, etc.

I'm not comparing Ole Miss and Arkansas to Vanderbilt and Kentucky, but Tennessee would literally beat them year in and year out for a long time. Why? Tennessee's talent was supreme to theirs and it's the same with LSU's talent. With the talent on our sidelines it should be a W every year. Now, Alabama and Auburn are completely different stories.

Because each is an SEC program with SEC players and coaches. Familiarity of all these teams allows for a more even playing field. Sometimes they win. Sometimes they lose.

Over the last 11 or 14 years, yes (8-3 vs. Arkie last 11, 10-4 vs. Ole Miss last 14). Over the last 7 years, not really (8-6 vs. the two combined). For at least the last 7 years, they are doing better against us than they should. And frankly, I think you could take the last 7 years' LSU teams, have them play exactly the same as they did against both teams every year, but just put any name other than LSU on them, and we would be something like 12-2 or 13-1 against them instead of 8-6.

You're being ridiculous. It's football. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. We are better than both of those teams. And hey, guess what? We beat them most of the time too.

Both of those teams have players who could start for us. Quit acting like they're USL.

Why should this never happen??

If you would have said LSU should never lose to teams like Northwestern St and Southeastern... I would agree. But Ole Miss and Arky? Come on.

Arky was a top 5 team in the nation a few years ago when they have Bobby P. They had a lot of talented WRs and Petrino is a really good QB coach / offensive mind. Before that, they had 1 of the best players to ever play college football in McFadden and he was with Felix Jones and Peyton Hillis and they were the 1st team to run the Wildcat Offense and had the perfect players for that. Obviously they struggled last year in BB 1st year and im curious to see how he works out for them, but any SEC team can beat you on any given Saturday.

Ole Miss had 1 of the best recruiting classes in the nation in 2013, 4th overall (LSU was 5th) according to 247spots. They finally have a coach that they really like and he has been reeling in big time recruits since he got there. And Ole Miss is ranked in the top 25 this preseason.

This. We are 10-4 against Ole Miss and 9-5 vs Arkansas since 2000.
