I am looking at getting a new blender. I want either a Vitamix 5200 or Blendtec Classic. Mostly just for making smoothies out of fresh and frozen fruit and an occasional soup. does anyone have one of these? What has been your experience?

I have a vitamix and love it, I'm sure a blendtec would be fine too. I got my vitamix for I think 350 at Costco.

I wouldnt mind buying a nice blender but I got this one to try and have been using it 1-2 times a day with no problems, not trying to talk you out of something high end though.

I have a Blendtec and it's pretty damn amazing. I think both are nice blenders and will behave vastly different than most of the "big box store" type models. I know I can fill mine with cubes of ice, hit a button and it turns into snow. Not crushed ice. Snow. The same for drinks. Both will give you high end results I'm sure.

Have a vitamix and it's pretty awesome, don't use it as much as I should. Have made soup a couple of times in it with good results

Ive got a $20 blender that seems to work fine. What advantages does a $300 blender have? Will it make me sammiches?

Then I'd save some money and get a nutri-bullet. I love mine. Use it daily. It is so easy to clean that it makes it more appealing to use.

I just got a Ninja from Amazon a couple of weeks ago for $45. I can't imaging anything that would blend hundreds of dollars better.

For a commercial kitchen I can understand something like that. And kitchens have a guy to wash the thing. If people want to shell out money for a top of the line blender I have no problem with that. People want what they want.

But for making smoothies I think the ninja and nutri-bullet are the way to go simply because you can clean them in 10 seconds. I'm much more likely to use it daily. And they work great on ice, frozen fruits and greens.

All you do to clean a blendtec or vitamix is rinse w/ hot water.

I had a Ninja - personally, i thought it was crap. Darn blades were sharp and things didn't get smooth.

After some research it came down to a Blendtec or Vitamix for me too. This site was the BEST for helping decide between the two:
Blendtec/Vitamix review

While it was a hard decision, I went with the Blendtec because I love the look and the program cycles are great for me.

I have a Vita Prep 3 and it is awesome. Textures you can achieve with it are fantastic and it has never overheated or strugged despite what I throw at it.

smoothie king uses vitamix.

and the difference between the blendtec/vitamix and some oster model you pick up at walmart is that the motor won't burn out on you if you want to make soup with it and have it running for 5 minutes. It also makes really smooth margaritas instead of chunky ones.
