Please take a moment and fill out the linked form below to oppose Amendment 40 which will further privatize the Gulf Red Snapper fishery. bullshite move that the feds think they can take a public resource and give commercial interests 75% of it. Filling this is out is even more important if you can't make the meeting on Monday evening in Baton Rouge.

Even if you don't have a dog in this fight, please help your OT brethren in fighting this bullshite.

I said on this very board, several times .......that "Catch Shares" were the goal.

Its nothing more that a tax on livestock IMO and it won't stop at Red Snapper

The model is already in place in the North East i believe???

Amendment 40 is no more than a thinly veiled effort to further remove the recreational fisherman from the federal red snapper fishery. Make no mistake, everyone aware of this amendment understands that RFA 40 is the imposition of a catch share program on the recreational sector. By vastly overinflating recreational impact, the gulf council has proven it is willing to bend the facts however they see fit to protect the commercial industry. The already constrained recreational allotment will be further split in two, allowing for the private sector to be grossly misreported as exceeding quota within state seasons. This occurs as the gulf council ignores state-collected empirical data suggesting recreational catch rates are not even approaching quota. This amendment will effectively end private fishing of red snapper in federal waters for the forseeable future, which has been the goal all along. Figure 1.1.2 of RFA 40 in particular is almost comical as a clear and petty retaliation to Louisiana state red snapper regulations. Your organization has lost all confidence among the fishermen of the gulf, and Amendment 40 is only further proof as to why.

Interesting.

I see the big charter guides want their slice of the pie too. I wonder how many publicly support this.
