I have a pretty diverse stock profolio but have no retail stock. I am trying to decide which stock to buy; Under Armor ( UA), Kate Spade (KATE), or Dillard's (DDS). All are good stock but I am only buying one for starters. Please share insight and opinion.

I would do Under Arnour. I like their P/E ratio

None of the above for me. I prefer NKE to UA, NKE has the strongest brand in the world with plenty of room to grow in the worldwide market. Nike is seen as a status symbol in Europe, whereas UA doesn't seem to be as much of one.

It really depends on what you're looking for, but with a long time horizon I'd pick UA by far. Although I agree with the above poster's sarcasm about their PE, they are indeed expensive, any pullbacks I'd be all over them.

In regards to the above poster and preferring NKE over UA because they are a more recognized brand worldwide, that's exactly why I'd buy UA. They have much more room to grow in all aspects, but especially globally. Also, kids are wearing nothing but UA. It's to them what Nike was to us. In 10-15 years, when they are the rising stars in the sports world, they'll still be wearing UA.

ETA: in regards to the other 2, Dillard's is Dillard's, I don't see them getting much bigger than they already are. And Kate Spade? I wouldn't dabble in the women's designer area. Women are too fickle.

Agreed, although I bought below 29 before market close yesterday. I'll take 10-15% and get out. This is not a buy and hold for me. Of the options OP listed, I'd take UA - on a pullback.

I just picked up a hand full of Michael Kors (KORS) last week. Has been a great stock since IPO. Very popular and expanding extremely fast.

If I had the money, the two retail stocks I would get would be UA and NKE. NKE has less room for growth but is a thoroughbred while UA is the up and coming young kid. Both have their perks but both are solid stocks to hold.

ETA: Will be interesting to see if Kevin Durant will stick with Nike or go Under Armour for apparel. I know he is only 1 guy, but with the NBA promoting the tar out of him and Lebron as the future/now, UA adding him will help bolster their brand. They do not have a big name like that for apparel marketing. Not to mention UA has a 10 year deal starting this year with Notre Dame.

Kate Spade just got killed on financials. Might be a good time to get in. I don't think the brand is going away.

Thinking about stepping in too a bit of both KATE and KORS, although KORS seems to look a bit better.
