Not a huge deal, as I really like college football's OT relative to the NFL method, but I've always wondered why there isn't much push to move the starting point to the 40....what are the arguments against?

While I like the current method, I do think it could be made a little better if the starting point wasn't already in FG range, making a team at least do something offensively to have an opportunity at points.

Thoughts?

I think the thought was they didn't want to make it to where both teams may not score for a while. They wanted something that would end quick (or hoped).

35 yard line is perfect in my mind. 52 yard field goal is a tough one in college if a team goes 3 and out

Change the field goal blocking rules in overtime.

Start at the 25. After each over time move the next one back five more yards.

I Agree with that...already in FG range, but a damn long FG. I think it should be the 35, not the 25.

I like that idea too.

Yeah, 35 or the 40. I don't like how if you go 3 and out you're already in reasonable FG range.

I agree that it's currently not broke per se, but I also believe moving to the 35/40 isn't necessarily what I would consider a "fix it"...the same rules and overtime method still apply, so you haven't really changed the overall method, just tweaked the starting point to make it a little better.

College OT really needs to be pushed back.

You shouldn't start in field goal range.

You should have to get at least one first down to be in field goal range.

So I agree.

except that it is broken.

it's a fricking joke at the 25. you're already in FG range, so unless cade foster is kicking for you, you'll win if you're kicking in the second half of the OT after you got a stop on defense. all they do is run up the middle twice then kick. it's fricking boring.

No it isn't. More exciting than most OT sports. Hockey is legit.

I actually prefer the nfl overtime. It's actual football. But I would like to see the college ot pushed. Back 10-15 yards.

Actually I would be in favor of this if you did it backwards....start at the 40...then move it in as the OT periods start to mount.

It would seem to me that if you keep moving it back, it makes it harder to score, which would mean more OT's in the same game. If you start back...and move closer, it increases the scoring chances and keeps the game from going too many OT's.
