For those that run on a consistent basis, do your knees ache?

I have tried different shoes and have never had problems until about two months ago. I love running but every couple days I wake up and my knees are pounding. Is there a supplement that can help with this?

All of my joints hurt. I have a feeling that if I could deal with it and work through the pain for a while, it may eventually feel better but I've had lingering knee issues since high school and a severely sprained ankle in college. My latest bout was with shin splints. I got some shin sleeves that help while I'm running but the ankle and knee pain won't go away.

tl;dr - frick me

If I press my thumb into the back of my knee joint it's a sharp pain that extends into the top of my calf. Right worse than left.

Go to your doctor or schedule a meeting with an orthopedic.

Also, you say you've tried different shoes but have you been to a running store? A good running store will have someone there that can measure your feet and analyze your body type to see what shoe is best for you. Trial and error at Academy is a sure way to get chin splints, sore knees, or muscle pulls.

Some will swear by Glucosomine/ Chondroitin.
Try it for yourself.

Plus you need to build up the quads and hamstrings in your legs to help relieve pressure off your joints.

This is another good point. Losing excess weight helps as well.

New Balance did this and it has helped some with my feet pain, not so much with my knees.

If I push myself too hard I have some knee issues. I've been backing off at the first bit of pain. Been working good for me lately.

You change shoes in this time? What has changed in your routine? It sounds like you've been running for some time and just recently experiencing pain?

End of May I noticed that my right knee was aching after a good run. I have been running for about 20 years and never had a problem. A friend pointed me to the New Balance store in Baton Rouge. The shoes have helped some soreness I would get in my right foot arch but the knees have gotten worse. My routine hasn't changed, I generally run about 150 miles a month.

Unfortunately, running is hard on the knees no matter what you do.

Outside knee pain? Maybe IT Band problem, which is very common. I blew out my ACL playing football and because other knee had to compensate I developed IT band issues. Pain during and after running. Stretching helps but it eventually flares again.

Try adjusting your diet and stretching differently or more.

If IT band problems then you need to layoff running and stretch.
