I have some movies on my laptop that I'd like to move to my tablet for bringing with me when I go offshore for work. I was able to move 3 of my movies using the Kies software, but when I try to copy the other movies only the audio transfers. No video. They are all .avi files so I dont know what the difference is between them that would only let a couple of them work and not the rest. Any help would be appreciated.

did you try moving them by dragging and dropping from your laptop to the tablet?

I watch tv shows (h.264) on my nexus with no issues by just moving them as if my tablet was a HDD.

i would also recommend something like this USB OTG you can store your movies on it and not take up space on your tablet.

Just because it's an .avi doesn't mean it's the same format. Lots of different video codecs use the .avi extension, so unless you have reason to believe they are all the same, ie you ripped them yourself the same way, I'm guessing you don't have the right video codecs for some of them. I don't know how much help this will be for your Android tablet, but it's a microsoft help page listing sites for commonly used codecs, maybe they have android versions. LINK

Get MX Player from the Play Store. If it won't play it, I'll kiss your arse.

frick.

I haven't found a video that MX won't play. Do they play video on your computer? You might need to figure out how to check the codec used in whatever program will actually play it.

yea, they play on the computer. I think I have like 20 movies or so, but only 4 of them will play on the tablet. The rest just get the audio.

i found mx to play virtually everything. did you play around with the 'software vs hardware' decoding settings? sometimes playing around with the settings will get your video to work.

Seriously. VLC played the BYU football team in a scrimmage last week.
