I usually get it from Crawford's on Staring which isn't too bad, any suggestions?

Mike Andersons or Dons. Crawfords is garbage. Tonys is ok.

I like the thin cut at George's. I only get it during lent. Then again I only eat fried fish during lent unless I'm at the camp.

The things I do for Jesus.

George's is good. Brewbacher's on Bluebonnet is good. I've finally decided I don't like Sammy's. It's just consistently godawful salty, and hell I'd rather have Piccadilly, which is probably basa. Same thing with Sammy's fries.

Are you saying that Middendorf's is the best fried catfish in BR?

Probably not anymore but when I was a kid I everyone used Amite River catfish or Bayou Des Allmonds.

But the farm raised catfish industry has come a long, long way in the last 30 years. I knew a lot of people who jumped into it in the mid 70's and lost their arse and the product was really poor. Since then it has consolidated, the aquaculture has gotten very clean and Purina has developed much better feed for the fish. I don't fish for catfish much anymore so I eat the farm raised and I can live with that.

I actually like Crawfords. After Smokie's shenanigans with the food trucks, he will never get another dime from me. Parrian's does a good job. What was the AYCE in Central a hundred years ago? Silvio's?

Dempseys switched from farm to wild, and that shite was awful, so they went back to farm.

But that might have been related to where they got them or whatever.

Not a restaurant, but Matherne's deli has really good catfish. You have to get it when it's freshly cooked though--if it's been sitting out it gets dry (like most deli foods do under heat lamps).

I hear you. And yes. Still have the catfish special on Fridays. It's enough for two people. Their fries are the suck.

A little off the radar, but Goodwood Grill at the corner of Goodwood and Tara has become my Friday night catfish go-to place. One order will feed two people.
