Kid bicycle trailer suggestions and questions

Any recommendations on a bicycle trailer for a toddler/kid? These things range from $100 to $600. Are the cheap ones pure trash?
Also, would you ride on neighborhood streets with your kid in one? The bike path is about 1 mile away from my house. I can ride wide, neighborhood roads to it, but LA drivers still make me nervous even though the speed limit is like 20.
It would just be such a hassle to drive the 1 mile and have to unload everything to go for a ride with my daughter.

How old is the kid?
I rode with one of the Ibert seats with all of mine. It mounts on the handlebars, so it centers the weight of the kid better than those rear mounts. I still had plenty of knee room to pedal.

I've even done mild trail riding with my two year old at Fausse Point State Park and Clear Springs, MS.

The iBert safe-T-seat provides families with exactly what they are looking for in a childrens bike seat; comfort, safety, an attractive and innovative design, and a good position where the child can fully explore the scenery. Nestled safely between the adult’s arms and behind the protection of the bicycle handlebars, the child can look around and be involved with the ride with mom or dad by turning the padded steering wheel.
##Center mounted provides a better center of gravity and increased mobility for the adult rider
##Better view and more enjoyable ride for the child
##The child safely positioned behind the handlebars allows for better communication
##Unlike trailers - no dirt, rocks or water thrown in the child’s face
##Easier, safer loading and unloading of the child

Never thought of this.

Neighbor across from me threw one out like this but without the cover. We took it, repainted, got new tires, and are looking for a cover. Looks great.

I have one similar. Mine has a handle on the back and also a front wheel if you want to use it like a stroller. Make sure you put the cover down or the tike will get pelted.

We have the Burley D'Lite trailer. Kids love it. There is a mesh screen that zip to protect the kids from rocks or other road debris that may get thrown from the rear tire of the bike.
I don't like pulling them on heavily traveled roads and usually opt for the side street in our neighborhood.

I already have a Bob Revolution for jogging. So I don't need a convertible one.
I like the look and cost of the Burley Bee though.

My local target had this Schwinn bike trailer on clearance for 1/2 off. Looks like this one and the echo have good reviews on Amazon. I've been close to pulling the trigger on one of these. I have a 20 month old boy who would love it.

I have the InSTEP Take 2. It's wide enough for my two boys to sit side by side. Keep that in mind if you are thinking about another baby. The safety straps allow for one child in the middle or two side by side.
It was a gift and only runs $90. Works great for riding around the neighborhood and dirt roads. Not like I'm doing any single track with it.
Bonus: After only riding with my kids behind me for 6-7 months I felt like I was flying when I took it off.

We have the Schwinn one from Target- been great so far. We put our 18 month old in it- he's two now and still going well.
Pretty decent quality and I think it was about 1/4 the price of the Burley's we looked at.
FWIW- I road bike and have decent mountain bikes to pull the trailer with so I would not buy junk. Am totally impressed with the Schwinn.
