So a friend is getting married and his preference is to go skiing. He is not into the club scene or anything like that, and we've done Vegas a bunch of times.

Currently, we are looking at South Lake Tahoe/Heavenly and Breckenridge.

I've actually been to Heavenly years ago and had a good time. Heavenly has casinos nearby and a much wilder nightlife scene for a bachelor party. The mountain is pretty consolidated and easy to navigate, but not as nice as some in Colorado. The problem with Tahoe is that its harder to get to. No direct flights to Reno, so the travel day will add on about 5-6 more hours than Breckenridge, and flights are about 200 more.

Breckenridge on the other hand is pretty easy to get to. Denver has tons of cheap, direct flights. Breckenridge is just a bit quieter. The Main Street does have a good bit of bars that are probably fun, but no casinos and I'm sure things don't get too wild (not that this group is THAT wild anyway). I've never been to Breck though so I'm just going off of second hand info.

So any advice? Which one would you do? Anyone been to both? Or either?

Places like Whistler are just too far and pricey.

Went to one in Breckenridge that was awesome. Would be my choice for a B party over Vegas or NOLA.

Tell me more. How was the nightlife? Where did you stay? Rent a house? Lodge? Stay in the town near Main Street or nearer the lifts? etc

Breckinridge is a pretty fun place and there are plenty of places to drink. Not really "wild" though. It'd be great for a more laid back trip.

Did one at Lake Tahoe that was a good time, you have all the basic bachelor party stuff like gambling, strippers, drugs, etc along with the snow skiing

We rented a ski in ski out house but really we should have just got rooms at one of the casinos that the lifts go to

ETA: I've been to Breck a bunch(this year most recently) and Heavenly is a better bachelor party location

When ya'll going?

We have a group of 9 going to Breck first week in January. Town is going to wish we never stepped foot in there.

I've been to Breck twice and it can be a fun ski town. Most fun I've had was Park City though.

Go first couple weeks in January, =college ski week (Breck has largest crowds for this). Will be jam packed with co-eds

We aren't sure yet, but we thought about the last weekend in January, we don't want to risk missing a Saints home playoff game.

Tell me about Park City. That would be equally easy to get to as there are direct flights to Salt Lake. I just thought it would be lame being in Utah so near SLC.

Park City is fun.

Great main street bars and such.

House rentals are cheaper than most resorts, but flights into SLC are about double into Denver

Eh, in that case I would just go to Tahoe since there are casinos and whatnot.

Its down to Breck and Tahoe I think. I've heard that Aspen and Vail are much more couple oriented.

I love Summit County, have been looking at property in the Frisco area. Would go 3-4 times a year and rent it out the rest.

And flying into denver is so cheap, generally $150-200

I have gotten it as cheap as $130

Breck is fun. Go to the Oxygen bar. Always some bad bitches with money in there.

Also place called The Snake at Keystone. Little local bar but it's a blast.

Very true

Skiing-wise Vail = 2nd best in US to Jackson Hole. But it's very family/couple.

Aspen is awesome if you want to spend $$$$$$$$$$$ and not ski that much.

I haven't been to Tahoe, Breck is for sure a younger town than the others.

FWIW, we are doing ours (9 people) for around $1k ea total, ski-in house in Breck, flights, tix, etc.

+1, went for a bachelor party 2 years ago and got a town home on the lake (ski in/out would probably have been better). A plus is if you are affected by the altitude, Tahoe is much better IMO.

I've been trying to familiarize myself with the layout of Breckenridge. What area is your house rental in?

I'm just trying to figure out if we need to rent SUVs or anything, or if we will be close enough to the bars and the slopes.

Get something off North Main, all the bars and stuff are there and it is a short walk to gondola.

You can stay walking distance from bars or slopes but not both

Remember walking distance could not matter for bars if it's 5 degrees and snow at night with a 30 mph wind.

If you want night life and skiing go to Reno Tahoe area. I would also check into Utah skiing, while there are lots of mormons. They tend to be blond and hot. Night life has gotten a lot better in Park City too. Steamboat and Vail are good places too.

We are Peak 8, right by Grand Timber Lodge. 50 ft from snowflake lift, 100 yds from beaverrun ruperchair.

We aren't getting a car. They have really good free shuttles around town, and even to other summit county resorts (copper, keystone, beaver valley)

Shuttle in from Denver for like 120/pp roundtrip.
