Am I going to like True Detective?

I'm two episodes into the show, and it's not as incredible as I expected.
Am I wasting my time, or is it about to get crazy awesome?
ETA: I loved it. Thanks to those who told me to keep pushing.

not crazy awesome. imo, it is a little overrated on this board, but it does get awesome.

I like the acting and atmosphere. The actual story took a back seat for me.

I watched it before it got so talked up and I thought it was great.
Definitely stick with it though. At minimum it is a show you will likely find compelling even if you do find it overrated. The character dynamic between Woody and Matthew M is pretty good.

Sort of overrated...everywhere - especially here.
It's moody, weird...dumb cop/smart cop (but cops aren't that smart in real life) - and weird behavior...and slow...and a little "art house" going nowhere show (it's a character show - only that - which is why actors want to do it...it's not The Killing.
If Moss and Colin do it...I will watch...but I bailed halfway through this supposed great drama. It's not Mad Men or Breaking Bad...

It is slow but its also only ten episodes. I found it way more interesting than Breaking Bad although I realize that's sacred ground I'm walking here

After reading about it on this board for awhile, my expectations were sky high. Just like you, a couple episodes in, I was asking, "is this it?" I mean, I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't enthralled or drooling over it.
I kept watching, as will you, I presume. In the end, it is a very solid show. Approaching greatness at times, but just missing the mark for me. There are definitely some seat clenching episodes coming up, but also another chore or two. The end should leave you satisfied, and it is definitely worth a watch and a recommend. However, I do not think it lived up to the hype/ expectation I had. Maybe, that is just a product of not watching as the series was running live.
Note: I did not binge watch. I watched about an episode a day, with a couple day break in between most times. Not intentionally, just a product of life. Just saying for those that might say this is not a binge watch show.
Lastly, this is the type of show that I could see being even better on a second viewing. There were things I picked up on at the end from earlier episodes.

I can get behind this. But its a very unique show that is swinging for the fences.

If the 5 minute single shot scene in episode 5 (I think) doesn't hook you, this definitely isn't for you

I thought it was great. Stick with it.

it's slowly becoming the M/TV board's favorite show to bash, so you might as well just stop watching
I loved it personally

Why don't you just tell him who the murderer is, save him the effort of watching?

I'm about to start episode 5. It does move slow so far imo, but it keeps me interested enough to finish the season.

the first 2-3 episodes set up a fantastic rest of the season
stick with it, its worth it. I loved it

I watched the first five a while back. Didn't really get into it. Watched the last four yesterday and loved them. Keep plugging away, it's a good show
