Was at Academy this afternoon and they had a few X-bolt Composite Stalkers for $529 in .270, 30-06, and 7mm-08. Should I have gotten one? really thought about it.
The were $120 off of the normal academy price.

I'd have a hard time passing one up at that price. I need a 7mm-08 and a bolt '06 too.

I have been thinking about getting one in stainless, and if they had a deal on one of those I probably would have pulled the trigger.

Cheapest one I could find on Gunbroker is $639.99 - that number excludes shipping and transfer fees.

That's a damn good buy, IMO. I'd go buy one in to put up for my son if my wife would let me. I've got several thousand dollars about to be shelled out on hunting season and she "wants something", I'm told. I tell her she gets the gift of waking up next to me each morning, but that doesn't suffice.

I almost paid 3k for a white gold (30-06 I think) at the whitetail banquet Saturday. Ended up going for close to 6k. I've never even hunted game with a rifle but it sure was pretty.
It's no wonder why the alcohol is so cheap at these events.
