What is view-able by an IT Dept on an iPhone

Getting sick of operating two iPhones, one for work and one personal. The only thing stopping me is the risk of the IT department. It is not like I am doing horrible stuff on the phone, but the company policy is pretty strict on cell phones and I would rather pay for 2 than lose a job over some stupid shite.
What can a normal IT department see on a company iPhone without confiscating it?

If they are using MDM software (Mobile Device Management) they can see what apps you have installed and track your location.
They can't see your texts. Last i've heard, even the government can't get into iMessage messages. LINK
Mobile Iron, Good, Air Watch are some of the MDM software that is used by companies. You can go on their websites and see what they can do.
If they don't use MDM software, you're good. they really can't see anything that they can't already see in your work email.

We use Air Watch. Mainly its the website tracking and phone usage while driving, etc.. that worries me.

Don't look at porn on company assets. It's a really easy way to get fired

If they're going to manage your phone remotely then just keep a separate phone.
Its not that you're doing anything sneaky. I just think people enjoy privacy.
We don't really use our mobile software for anything except to enforce security policies. Have to use a PIN, auto-lock, wipes phone after x failed attempts, etc.

My employers written policy is that they check for jailbreaking and enforce security (passcode lock). No data monitoring, which seems to be true as I haven't gotten any letters yet.
ETA: We use mobile iron.

Ya'll keep saying they can't see texts. At my company the business owns the phone number and hand us the device. They don't install anything on it that I have seen.
Since they own the number couldn't they very easily see/get the texts? Seems like it would be easy to get the texts for these numbers.
Eta not a iPhone for me but same principle.

InfoSec/HR, etc cannot see your text messages. Regardless, you have no expectation of privacy on company owned device. Dont conduct personal business on your work phone and you have nothing to worry about.
You dont know what they have installed on that phone before they give it to you. Only way your getting text messages is a subpoena though

Interesting. I don't do anything I shouldn't on it. But I do carry 2 phones as some text messages are very questionable for work.
Considering I wiped the device when rooting I am pretty sure I know what is and isn't on my ROM.

Why use a company phone and risk anything? Just use OWA for email on your own phone. Forward the calls to your phone and leave the company phone on the dresser at home.

wait you rooted your company phone? Smart idea...
if you rooted the phone your company is not using MDM. Thats one of the first things MDM will detect and block access to, a rooted phone

This will end well when the company tracks his GPS...

The best rule is one that's been stated many times here: don't do personal stuff on our company phone. Avoid the slippery slope by not even going near it. ;)
