Anyone have any experience with a microcell that isn't proprietary toa single carrier? For private residential use.

I have one in my house - works really well.

Before: very little to no signal, had to go to a spot in my driveway and still dropped calls all the time

After: full strength signal, can call from anywhere in my house or yard.

What brand do you have Aubie?

I have spoken with the ATT field engineers regarding my house. I am in a hole and no matter how much juice they push to the Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMAs), it won't change my outcome. I have a tower 2 miles from my house that has ATT on it. I went by ATT today and they have a unit but it is proprietary to ATT service. Considering all carrier service at my house is horrible, I want to get one that will help anyone that comes to my house. Last optiin would be one that just boosts a GSM carrier. All I need it for is better call signal otherwuse I am on wifi for data. With the ATT unit you have to register each guest that is using it.

I have never heard of anything that can handle all carriers. With all the different frequencies used for all the different technologies that would be quite a device. Expensive too.

Don't the microcells only work for a certain number of registered phones anyway?

For a phone to work with the microcell, it has to be registered to the microcell and I think you can only connect a certain number, like 5 or so

At least it used to be this way

I'll find out this week. I walked into ATT the other day and asked them how much it would cost to drop my 5 phone plan with them. Manager asked why and I told him my house reception sucks and I wasn't paying another $150 to get a signal I was already paying to receive. He said he could wave the cost if a tech came by and determined the signal was bad....I said "send him"

I used to have one at my office and it was great. And yes, at that time we did have to put in the #s we wanted it to work with. I think this has something to do with data some some slapdick can't come into your house and get on the micro and suck all of your data plan..I can't remember exactly.

Seems like there was something on TD about a device you could put on a window and increase reception big time with any carrier....may have been for a vehicle though

I apologize. I overlooked where you requested one that wasn't proprietary to single carrier.

Mine is an AT&T one.

I was only able to get it for 100 dollars off though. I hope you can get it for free

We have a meeting with some of the Regional ATT Project Managers in Atlanta this coning up week. I am going to mention my bad reception and see what they can recommend.

Oh and I forgot to mention. The new ATT microcells can sustain 15 phones at one time.

I got a free microcell from ATT after calling and bitching that I have to go outside to use the phone at home. First offer was a reduced cost of $100 then they said they would give it to me since I said that I didn't even know if it would help fix my problem. It works and now I can get calls while actually in my own home
