What the heck does this mean? Homicide by Hinckley? Very confusing, at least the way it's depicted in the article.

Longest time I've ever heard of it taking somebody to die from a gunshot wound.

When I die, charge my mother with a homicide. My birth contributed directly to my death in that I could not have died without being born.

If you shoot a guy after he jumps off a building (without a parachute and with nothing but pavement below him and with intent to kill himself) but before he hits the pavement and the coroner rules the death was caused by the bullet - its murder.
If you shoot a guy in his sleep with intent to kill him but it turns out he wasn't asleep but already dead when you shot him - its attempted murder.

You're talking about intent to kill and that's exactly why Hinckley was convicted. But Brady didn't die right after being shot and he wasn't already dead he went on to live another 33 years after being shot.
Do you not see the difference there?

If I inject you with HIV with intent to kill and you die 33 years later from AIDS - its murder. You know it is. Its murder that involves 33 years of torture before the grand finale.
