My buddy that lives in Katy in a $200k - $300k neighborhood pays $260/yr for his HOA.

They have like 3 ponds, a park, swimming pool, tennis courts, etc too.

Not sure the number of houses though.

I think it has less to do with the price of the houses and more to do with the services offered

My neighborhood is even larger than that and our HOA fees are only $100 per year.

This is your problem. Our HOA fees are $230 a year. There was some talk about getting someone to manage the neighborhood but our dues would double.

Ours are from 220-350k and our HOA is 240. That includes front entrance maintenance, property management and 2 large lakes with fountains.

Copper Mill in Zachary is about to go to $2200 a year from what I understand. That's up from the current price of $1500 a year.

If you live in baton rouge I think we live in the same neighborhood and I think it's absolutely absurd that we pay $600 a year.

Mine are $180 per year and houses range from $300,000-$1 million. It only pays for upkeep of the entrance, power for the street lights, and a few other things that I forget. Big neighborhood though.

Yep, management company. I've actually considered starting such a business because it is easy money, but I have an issue staking my success on HOA boards who change with the wind and bicker about everything under the sun.

Our are $130/mo until they turn it over to us once final phase is complete. I think we'll lower that substantially.

It's a gated golf course community, does not include membership. street cleaners come every Sunday (construction)

Mine is $400 a year...houses range from $200k to over $1 million. I mean its a decent sized neighboorhood but of course the club/pool/tennis courts is fukin extra and only available for summer. Guess how much they want to charge for that for a family...$500 for a summer. It isnt that great either.

The only thing I see the HOA fees do is make sure the lights work on the streets. I rarely see them do anything else with the money. They do give us a report of how much funds they received and what it was all used for. I just dont buy all of it for some reason.

And the HOA doesn't even cut the grass around the lakes or common areas. On the front lake, DSLD does it (even though there's only 2 or 3 of their houses on that one) and on the back lake, the owners have to cut their own down to the lake.

Why would you risk a lien on your property for this? You realize that when you sell the house you have to pay, right?

I bend over and they take $135/month from me.

I live in a mediocre townhome/"patio" home neighborhood.

It includes sewer/water/trash,front yard maintenance and I guess common area maintenance and the pool.

If you take those services out from the bill, I get nothing, yet I would still be paying an absurd amount yearly.
