College football as we know it is going down the drain.

How come college basketball with March madness can keep it interesting but college football needs us against them rules?

I mean didnt Uconn from the american conference just win the national champtionship in basketball?

Yea, I've never been in favor of paying players and I think Pandora's box just got opened. This looks to have been done strictly for football but I think it will really have an adverse effect on the other sports, especially b-ball. Are the days of tournament Cinderella's over?

It's gonna widen the gap between the Haves and have nots in the power conferences. Basically will turn the Kentuckys and Vanderbilts into the Arkansas States and North Texas.

this. I think it will be OK though because the schools simply don't have the money to pay a lot to ALL athletes, which they surely wjill have to do. I think it'll end up covering the entire cost of going to college with a modest spending money allowance. the problem will be and always has been the BOOSTERS. I hope there is no change in that. we cannot allow the boosters to run amok. the poor bastards can't help themselves.

He who spends the most gets the most

Right up bamas alley.

They have been paying for victory forever, now they can do it in the open.

Oh and I guess Flukers 30K check just blends right in now.

CFB was a joke before it will be worse now.

I think they have a justification they deserve money. However, it doesn't make any sense for the sport itself. Paying players is going to open a can of worms college sports is not ready for. You already have problems with under the tablet stuff in recruiting violations and this just puts it out in the open. Not just that but you already have many other problems like players not going to class or thinking they're better than anyone else. What incentive do they have to go to class now or push work ethic in themselves if they're getting paid a lot of money? It's just one of the many problems it brings. Sure, those problems already exist but this will just make them 100x worse.

The only colleges that are going to prosper is the richest ones unless they put certain restrictions. Perhaps they will do a conference pool of money and it will be divided up evenly to the players. I'm personally conflicted on this. I think players deserve money off their own name but it kills the integrity of the sport. The one thing I like about college sports is the amount of heart and motivation that goes into each athlete playing. I much prefer college sports over professional but now it will move more toward pro. The college player has to motivate himself and work hard so he can earn that paycheck in the NFL.

It's not like players now are handicapped even if they don't make it into the NFL. They have many things like player insurance policies or player performance bonuses if they're a great college player but can't cut in the NFL. Let's not forget you're getting a free education. It's an institution of higher learning not a promotion for you to go the NFL. Now it's going to be that plus more.

Only thing this is going to do is help programs that are rich and has high alumni support which is not good for LSU. We have a profitable athletic program but our alumni support is very weak. Programs like Bama, TAMU or Texas are going to thrive in this new system. When they come in flipping the checkbook open in a poor state like Louisiana, it's going to hurt. We'll be better off than most programs but we'll not be able to sit at the top like the richer programs in Bama/TAMU who have much better alumni support which is the big thing that people seem to ignore. That's a lot of extra network of money flowing through the boosters/university.

I don't like this rule one bit. This is going to be the death of the NCAA. Only the rich will survive.

I think this could make the game better honestly. If players can legally get paid, it will make cheating harder. Why risk getting caught taking under the table money as a player when you're already getting paid? The risk isn't worth it anymore.

ETA: and I don't think it destroys the integrity of the game. Any student who works for the university, even those who get full scholarships get paid. These athletes work for the school. They should get paid.

He will take it to the absolute limit +1. Bama fans should rejoice at any relaxing of the rules or oversight.
