NYPD cops are so fed up with Mayor de Blasio over the Eric Garner case that they’re threatening to work strictly by the book to protect themselves — even if it keeps them from responding to emergencies.

The head of the city sergeants union on Tuesday publicly urged cops to dot every “i” and cross every “t” amid de Blasio’s alleged lack of support for officers after Garner’s chokehold death in police custody last month..

“Going forward, for members of the NYPD, we want you to do your job and follow the rule book the way it’s written,” Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said during a news conference in Manhattan. “If there’s a delay getting to the next place, so be it.”

He later elaborated, saying, “When a police officer responds to a scene, he should complete the job there before moving on to the next job.
“Let’s say he gets called to a burglary, then he should follow the job to its completion before responding to the second job. And if the second job is more serious, the officer might not respond there immediately, depending on what’s happening in the first job he responded to.”

Is he mad someone finally is seeing some repercussions for killing an unarmed person they were arresting?

They are now just following the rules? They should have been doing that all along.

So, a cop unnecessarily puts a guy in a choke hold, causing his death, and people are coming down hard on him, and the police are upset and acting like little bitches?

Sounds about right.

Choking the shite out of someone until they are dead so they can move on to the next call more quickly is a much better policy.

Actually their comments have nothing to do with the law, but with internal procedure.

It's called a "work slowdown". In manufacturing it's quite common. Normally, workers know shortcuts that, though not official and "by the book", allow the work to get done.

But in a "work slowdown", "the book" is strictly enforced. For example, a part which may not be strictly within tolerance but still usable, and which would be approved, under a slowdown is rejected, thus slowing production.

‘follow the rules’
admittedly, they have shown problems in doing that.

cop culture is just trash.....

if you want a real look into the juvenile nature of them, browse around Police Magazine

ETA: I'm just now understanding the logic of his statement...the guy was taking too much time to be put under arrest for a minor offense...they didn't follow rules and killed him so they could get to the donut shop...in the future, the donut shop will have to wait while they arrest him within the rules...

Fewer innocent people harassed. Fewer dogs shot. Sounds like a win-win-win to me.
