Just bought a house that's got speakers installed in the ceiling through out the house, with all the connections in the living room behind the TV. I'm looking for a receiver to optimize this hookup. Don't have a budget because I'm not really sure what my options are. Any suggestions on where I should start the search?

ETA: It's 6 rooms (I think, only been in there for a few days), each room has 2 speakers. I'll be hooking up the Directv box, PS4, and Roku.

Yamaha
Onkyo
Denon
Marantz

You will probably have to spend at least a few hundred bucks, if not a grand. Depends on exactly how many speakers and zones there are.

I just bought a Marantz unit that runs my HT along with a pair of speakers in kitchen and patio. Ordered it from best buy..

It has a free control app as well that works with tablets and phones.

Most receivers are only built to run a theater and one or two more zones of audio. How many rooms have speakers in the house?

rooms with single hardwired speakers = OUT
rooms with their own BT jamboxes = IN

Well, he's asking about driving speakers that are hardwired so it's a valid question. I can assure you as someone in the business that hardwiring speakers and driving them with amplifiers is certainly not "OUT".

its running over $500 right now, where as the equivalent yamaha is $399. Its not worth the extra $100. Too bad the sony's have such reliability issue, its a really slick receiver!

This thread will turn into the typical - cad thread - you must buy what I buy b.c I am insecure about my small penis.

I just got the onkyo 535 to run my outdoor speakers and TV sound. I haven't hooked it up yet.

I have the denon avr3000 in my media room and love it. great for 5.1 sound and its more firepower than I will ever need in that room…very easy to configure and set up

I bought Onkyo TX-NR3008 (MSRP $2,099) new and it died 2 years later because BGA chip on HDMI board failed. I don't know if Onkyo has fixed this issue with recent models.

so I had to buy another one. It's the exact same model as Pioneer Elite SC-75 except having a different model number.

I had to spend money again but this one sounds even better than the $2100 Onkyo. ESS Sabre32 DAC is the game changer. It's all about the DAC.

This is true if you're into low-fi sound. OP said he bought a house with speakers already run throughout at least one room, though. It wouldn't make very much sense at all to not utilize them and/or go buy a BT Jambox.

And OP, please post not just the number of rooms but the number of speakers ready to be hooked up behind the TV. If there are 5 pairs of wires, a 7.2 system doesn't necessarily address your needs very well.

Also, what sources are you considering using and how do you want to plug them all up?

that was purely tongue in cheek (hence the smiley) but its kinda true these days especially if you have a big family because my daughter is listening to her vibe in her room, my son is listening to his..i have something going downstairs by the kitchen and our bedroom is typically downtempo shite when we're relaxing before bed.

nice not to have to deal with one single system.
