I'm not musical. I can't play anything more complex than iTunes. But I'm told by real music people that PaulSimon does amazing things on Graceland. I love it. But what's so special to musicians?

There's something special about Graceland that brings you to this happy place like none other. I never got an appreciation for the album until the last year or two. I always heard a few of the singles on the radio growing up, but considered it to be old people music.

The follow up Rhythm of the Saints uses Brazilian musicians and has some good tunes on it as well. I saw that tour twice and his stop at the Cajundome is still one of my fav shows.

Because losing love is like a window in your heart. Everybody sees you're blown apart.

Seriously though, Graceland is definitely a desert island album for me. The songwriting is incredibly strong and consistent. The music is eclectic and on point. Vocal melodies infectious, emotional, and soulful. The subject matter is light and quirky, yet serious all at the same time and just puts me in a great mood.

I was there, but maybe five years old at the time.

I remember bits and pieces, like my Dad explaining to me what an encore was and why we were staying in our seats and cheering after he left stage and told us good night.

The seamless weave Simon creates with the Africans along with him being absolutely plugged into his Muse lyrically and melodically. It really is brilliant.

There's a Netflix documentary on the album, if you're interested.

Paul Simon is America's greatest songwriter, bar none. I will cry buckets if he passes before I do... his is the music of my life.
