You can, but the laws says that a 4473 has to be filled out with a background check.

So if it's in state I can just sell but out of state 4473?

Not sure the answer to that. When I sold a bunch of stuff last year, I didn't ask where people where from. An FFL should be able to answer this

When I sell a firearm in state I get a copy of the guys DL and have him sign a bill of sale.

Let's say I sign up for a MS Gun group and find somebody in my hometown of Vicksburg, MS that wants to buy my gun. What would I need?

Handgun scenario and Rifle/longun scenario please. I know they are different.

I am almost positive a sell handgun to an out of state resident requires an FFL. I think a long gun can be done sold to residents in adjoining states without the use of an FFL.

I can't speak for MS, but in Louisiana you can sell a long gun or hand gun to another individual just like you would anything else. No bill of sale or ID or anything required. As a federal law if you want to sell a firearm to someone out of state you have to ship it to an FFL in the buyers state so they can do a 4473/background check. Some FFLs require an FFL send them the gun. This is not a rule according to the ATF.

Also in LA you can ship a long gun directly to another LA resident without using an FFL or any background check or anything. No sure if this is true for handguns though, I'd have to contact my IOI agent.

Just to clarify I wasn't saying that getting a copy of the DL and bill of sale is required to sell a firearm in state. I just do that on my own.

I only do this if the gun is under my name...

If you're selling any firearm to someone that lives in another state, you have to go through a firearms dealer (i.e. You ship the gun to a dealer in their state and they pick it up. If you are selling to someone in the same state you don't have to do anything special.

It is a little more complicated than that...
