LINK

On any other team, I don't know how this would go over with some of the players.

I'm on my phone, so it's a mobile link

I'm more pumped that we hired Ettore Messina.

Hammon is the first female NBA assistant coach I believe.

I trust that it will not be a distraction.

I think people trust Pop's basketball decision making. He's the best coach in the NBA, so if he thinks she can coach then there's not much anybody can melt about.

If Pop hired her...she must can coach her arse off. Of course it also might be something for him to look at when they are beating arse

She'll teach Tim Duncan the lost art of missing easy lay-ups.

I find it hard to believe there isn't a more qualified male coach out there. Seems they wanted to hire a female.

I find it hard to believe you think they would hire someone that wasn't qualified.

It gives them a different perspective, I like it.

Some of the comments suggested she's worked with people on the team in the past, maybe with USA basketball or something? It's probably more about making an impression in previous interactions than Pop doing some social engineering experiment with the current champions.

SI says that Pop invited her to sit in on meetings and such last year when she was injured. They aren't bringing her in just to get positive PR.

Good for her, good for the Spurs. They also brought in a long time Euro coach, Ettore Messina, this summer. As always, interesting stuff in San Antonio
