Does any ap'ers know if you can launch in Bayou Francois and drive through the pump station into Maurepas Swamp wma and smith bayou into blind river?

If you look at the pump station on google maps it looks like it has a boat channel on it's northern side...

Yes you can. Either put in off laurel ridge or you can put in at the old pj's off 22

Which one is the one off Paul road?

And excuse my ignorance, but why do they have an open boat channel in bayou Francois at the station and have pumps at the same time? Seems like you could just delete the pumps all together and make the bayou completely open

I'm not sure but i would think it has something to do with flood control..

During storms you would close the boat channel and still be able to pump from the Gonzalez/St. Amant side into the lake.. This is all considering that the lake would be relatively high because of storm surge.

Does anyone know what the fishing is like in Bayou Francois itself?

I used to put in at Bayou Paul. Never did great fishing there. Could catch a lot when water was draining from the crawfish ponds going towards PJs landing. Also, there are a ton of cuts on the long straight stretch on the other side of the pumping station. Sometimes they hold some goggle eye. But most of the time I didn't catch much.

Great for running jugs ;)

The launch off Paul road is the old PJs Landing.

You can catch a bass or two and a sacaulait or two. I've fished there several times (usuall when knocking the dust off my boat) and have never had a good trip

Awesome just what I'm looking to do.

What about the blind river area and smith bayou? It seems blind river would be too much boat traffic.

My house used to be on bayou Francois. Unfortunately I had to move to Texas a few months back so no longer live there. Used to be able to catch bunches of small bass I'm there until hurricane Isaac whipped everything out.

^ correct.

There is a boat way on the north side of the pumping station.

Issac and Gustov and Katrina. They have all been hell on the fish population over the last decade...

It's seems like a recurring theme with the Blind River/Amite areas. Always a hurricane that decimated the fish pop.
